Third time’s the Liebster Award

So the awesome Jia Wei from Film and Nuance has decided to nominate me for a Liebster award. First off, thanks man… really appreicate the love. Secondly, this is the third one of these that I have received. Not sure what it does, but it’s always fun to see one of these get thrown my way to then hit me in the face because I was never good at sports which means I wouldn’t have the ability to catch it in time. Anyway, rambling done, let’s do this shit. You know, the shit. Answer questions, nominate some people, give them questions. Also, at the start of it, thank the person who nominated you… done.

1.What is your favourite movie in your least favourite genre. And why?
I don’t really like romantic movies. Very few of them have any other purpose than to show two somewhat attractive people be in love nd then fight and then be in love again. But to give credit where credit is due, I do think “Brokeback Mountain” is a good example of a romantic movie that works. It’s a fantastic movie that features conflicted characters with many layers to them. Combine that with the fantastic performances from Ledger and Gyllenhaal and the magnificent directing by Ang Lee, and you get one hell of a drama with great emotional impact. I also really enjoyed Woody Allen’s “Midnight in Paris”, that movie was a lot of fun.

2.If you had to favour a certain style (for directing a film, writing a book or any other art form of your choice), would you prefer a no-frills and direct approach, or an artistic and ambiguous one. Why?
That is a damn good question. Hmmm… I don’t know, both styles offer things that I enjoy seeing within film/television/literature. I guess I’ll go with the artistic and ambiguous one because of it being able to generate some interesting discussion between people.

3.Name a movie you can watch any day.
“The Rock”. Such a fun action movie with a badass and awesome performance by Sean Connery. I’d also say that several if not most of the MCU films can be easily digested at any time.

4.If you could keep an object that you had previously but by now either lost it,sold, misplaced, had it stolen or destroyed, what would it be?
There are a good amount of toys that I had as a kid that I’ve either lost or seen semi-destroyed that I would love to see on my desk/in my room. I’m a huge geek who loved a lot of those things back as a child and still have a soft spot for now. For example, I had some old Spider-Man action figures that I’d like to still have with me since he is my favorite superhero.

5.Pick an era to live in.
1960s or 1970s. Lots of great films that came out in those times that would be awesome to see in those old theaters. But I do also to some extent like my times now because of the easy access to most things a person could need.

6.The best film you’ve seen this year and an unreleased 2016 film that you think might beat it.
“Deadpool”. Fucking love “Deadpool”. Not sure if anything could really beat it, but I have a slight suspicion that “Rogue One” could reach those heights at least.

7.Name a memory you would keep till your death.
I wouldn’t want to forget anything except for some times that were pretty meh. But if I have to pick out a specific one… My trip to England. Had such an amazing time, met a whole bunch of new friends who I still have some contact with. A lot of the thigns I saw and did too were pretty awesome, so I guess I’d like to keep that entire trip.

8.Ice-cream or popsicles?
Ice cream, no doubt about that one.

9.Where do you stand on the Harambe case?
I think that the memes are getting a little too out of hand because they’re stupid and honestly kind of disrespectful to both the great creature and the Cincinnati zoo. But to give my two cents on the situation itself: The mother should have kept much closer attention to the kid and made sure that it wouldn’t have tried to climb in. But I also need to say that the zoo needed to have checked their fences properly so that NO ONE could climb/fall into Harambe’s habitat so easily. Though it is kind of difficult to point fingers on specifically one thing because of so many possible factors playing into it.

10.Favourite type of music? And what does it mean to you?
Even if people have never met me, they still most likely are aware of my love for rock music. And I’m not really talking about the style of rock that you heard Elvis or Bill Haley play (Sidenote: I think their music is great, so don’t think I’m hating on them), but I’m talking mroe the style that came in the 70s and 80s. More specifically, the music from my favorite band, AC/DC. And really I’m just addicted to that stuff, I think it’s absolutely amazing. Without it, I don’t think I would entirely be the same person that I am.

11.How do you cool off after being upset/angry?
Walk away, sit down on the floor, deep breaths. So basically meditation, but in a less spiritual sense. Coffee also tends to help out a lot. Hugs can also be helpful, whether they’d come from my dog or one of my parents.

So those were the questions that were given to me. And I gotta say, they were really good, I could really tell that a lot of thought went into them. So now I gotta choose some sacrificial victi- I mean, nominees.

There, nine nominees. You might say that I’m cheating, but if you look up the official rules of the Liebster award, it says that you nominate 5 to 11 blogs. So as long as you’re somewhere inbetween there, you’re good. And nine is between those, so I win! Now, time to give them some questions to answer so I can learn their darkest secre- I mean, know what they think about stuff.

1. Is there a movie remake that you actually think is good?

2. You’re gonna be stuck in a prison cell for a long time, name three books that you’d bring with you to pass the time.

3. Are there any movie adaptations that you think are better than the book it’s based on?

4. Best/Worst film you’ve seen so far that came out this year?

5. Should the United states presidential campaign of 2016 be called Tron or Clump?

6. What was your favorite toy as a kid?

7. Global warming: Scientific fact or total bullshit?

8. Is there a song that always gets you emotional/makes you cry?

9. What’s your favorite documentary film?

10. Cats or dogs?

11. What is your most anticipated movie of 2017?

There, 11 questions. DONE! Have fun answering those and then giving some other people questions of your own!

I want to once again thank the awesome JW from Film and Nuance for nominating me for this. Sure, figuring out who to nominate and also coming up with questions is a task that takes a lot of effort, but I guess it’s worth it in the end. But it’s always fun spreading the love among people who may or may not need it, ya know.

So this has been Markus answering and questioning things once again. But before we go, I just wanna mention that I’m planning a little announcement at the moment, so look out for that shit!
Have a good one.

Another Sunshine Blogger Award!?

So the owner of (go check that shit out, it’s pretty awesome) decided to nominate me for a Sunshine blogger award. Firstly, thank you so much, kind person. Secondly, that’s the second one I have gotten this month. So for some reason, people think I’m worth nominating for these things. Oh well, better get going with this before I start rambling too much.
Ze rules:

  1. Post the award nomination on your blog
  2. Thank the blogger who nominated you
  3. Answer 11 questions assigned to you
  4. Nominate 11 other bloggers for the Award
  5. Ask 11 questions to your nominees

So these are the kind person’s questions and my answers:

Name 3 movies, which had the biggest impact on you (your life)?
Hmmm, that’s an interesting question to think about. Uhm… Probably “Fight Club”, because it’s my favorite. “Star Wars” because motherfucking “Star Wars”.  And “Requiem for a Dream” because I’ve never been so traumatized by any movie ever (stay away from drugs, kids).

Movie that shocked you the most?
The aforementioned “Requiem for a Dream”. Seriously, it fucked me up pretty badly.

Favourite horror movie?
“Jaws”. Love that one so much.

“The Godfather” or “Goodfellas”? Why?
“The Godfather”, because I have not seen “Goodfellas”.

If there was a movie about your life, who would you select for a lead role?
Not that I’d ever want there to be a movie about my life, but if I had to choose someone to play me… Probably Tom Holland. We’re pretty close in age and he doesn’t look too different from me.

What movie you wish you’d never have watched (for any reason?)
“Jonah Hex”, good fucking god, it’s awful. When I was younger, I liked it. But when I was younger, I was also a huge idiot. Casting of Josh Brolin, great. Everything else, shit.

Any foreign-language movie you proud/glad you watched?
Probably “Pan’s Labyrinth”. A dark and masterful fairytale done by a master of amazing visuals.

Favourite song in a movie?
If by song you mean one with singing that’s been used in a scene, then I’d probably say “Where is My Mind” from the end of “Fight Club”.

Favourite music band/singer?
AC/DC. Anybody who remotely knows me is pretty aware of that by now.

Have you attended any film festivals? Did you like the experience? If not, which ones would you like to attend?
I have never been to any film festival in my entire life. But there’s one not too far from where I live every year, so maybe that one. Also, Cannes and TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival), because obviously obvious answer is obvious.

What movie(s) are you looking forward to seeing soon?
I’m really looking forward to possibly seeing “The Magnificent Seven” in theaters in a month. Mainly because I feel like there aren’t enough big budget westerns being made these days. Plus, it just looks fun.

So those were my answers to the questions given by the owner of that previously mentioned blog that I told you check out because of the person nominating me for this thing. So… let’s see who my nominess will be.

There, 11 people nominated. Now that the worst part (for me) is over, let’s get to the questions!

Is there a movie that you like but most other people dislike? If so, which movie is it?

Favorite movie of 1997?

What’s the best christmas present you have ever received?

Coffee or tea?

Is there a song that always gets you emotional?

Favorite color?

Favorite space movie that is not in any way part of the “Star Wars” mythos?

If you could bring back any dead celebrity for a chat (or something), who would it be?

What do you do to relax?

You’re stuck on a deserted island, what 4 movies have you brought with you to bide your time?

What canceled show would you want to see brought back from the dead?

So those are my 11 questions for my 11 nominees. Holy shit, this thing took some time! Once again, thanks to for this award thingy.
Have a good one.

Sunshine Blogger Award

So the legitimately likable Liam ( threw a little Sunshine blogger award my way (for some reason). Well… Thank you, Liam! I appreciate it despite not knowing what you see in my blog (self-deprecation, ladies and gentlemen!). So I guess I should write out the rules for this thing. And by write out I mean copy and paste.

  • Post the award on your blog
  • Thank the person who nominated you
  • Answer the 11 questions they set you
  • Pick another 11 bloggers (and let them know they are nominated!)
  • Give them 11 questions

And now I shall answers the questions given to me (and 10 other people) by Liam.

If you were stuck in a room for 48 hours and you were allowed to watch one film to pass the time, what would it be?
That is a really good question. While I do have a favorite movie, it’s not one I feel like I could watch several times in such quick succession like that. So I’m probably gonna pick the 1996 action movie “The Rock” for this thing, since it’s so much fun.

Who is your favourite actor?
Edward Norton.

Who is your favourite actress?
That is a damn good question, because I’ve never really given this one too much thought. But to give some form of answer I will say Julia Roberts, because we need to move on.

Which genre of film do you most dislike?
Probably musicals, I have a hard time getting into them. Except for maybe animated Disney stuff, those are fine.

If you could bring back one famous person from the dead for a coffee and a chat, who would it be?
Probably Patrick Swayze. I’ve been a fan of him for most of my life, and he seemed like a cool person, so I’d love to be able to meet him.

What are your personal goals/ambitions for the future of your blog?
Just go on and try to continue having fun with it. The positive feedback given by my followers has really helped me stick this out since it gives me so much motivation to continue doing this. But I really don’t have any actual goals with it, since this has always been a little hobby of mine.

What is the scariest film you have ever watched?
“Jack and Jill”. No, but seriously, it’s actually “Requiem For a Dream”. The intensity and horrific things going on in it just makes it so scary for me, despite not really being a horror movie.

Have you had anyone else write for your blog?
Nope. Hasn’t happened yet and I’m not really planning to let it happen. Maybe at some point in the future when I stop being such a grinch, but as for now… nope.

Who is your favourite superhero and why?
Spider-Man. I grew up watching the 1994 cartoon and the Sam Raimi movies, so he’s always been part of my life, and my love for the guy has only increased even more with his inclusion in “Captain America: Civil War”. But he’s just a likable character who is pretty easy to relate to when all is said and done.

If you could travel back in time and watch one older film in the cinema when it was released, what film would it be?
I love this question so much. Uhm… either “Jaws” or “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”. Both are classics and both would probably be pretty awesome to see in an older cinema.

Are there any films you think are really overrated?
I’m gonna get so much hate for this… But I think “Avengers” is a pretty overrated movie. It’s not bad, but it’s a bit too hyped and overrated. Also, “Avatar” and “The Dark Knight”. One of those a lot of people agree on that it is overrated, and the other one is legitimately great but maybe a little bit overrated. You figure out which is which.

And those were Liam’s questions for me (and 10 other people). So now I guess I’ll have to nominate 11 people for this, *sigh*… this takes a lot of effort, you guys.

So those are my victi- I mean, nominees. So here are my questions:

If you could eliminate one movie from this reality, which would it be?

Have you ever broken a bone?

What is your favorite movie of 2016 so far?

What book would you like to see get made into a movie/TV show?

Favorite artist/band?

Ever had a celebrity encounter? If so, who? (2 in 1, loophole!)

Batfleck or Baleman?

Favorite kind of pizza?

Favorite comedy series?

Why did you start blogging?

What song (lullabies and kid’s songs don’t count) do you know all the words to?

That took a good amount of time to do… holy shit. But it’s done, thank god. But I’d like to once again, for the last time, thank the lovingly listed lunatic Liam ( for nominating me for this silly thing.

This has been Markus taking quite a bit of time out of his evening to write this thing.
Have a good one.

Liebster Award Number Two

Well, I’ll be damned… another Liebster Award Nomination thingamajig. This time from Tom over at First off, thank you very much, my good sir. Secondly, this is the second nomination for this I’ve gotten in less than a month. This makes me wonder what people see in me that makes them go “Oh yes, quite good, give this man a nomination or sometning, nyah!”. Not complaining, it’s just that I have a tendency to overthink these things. Oh well, let’s get on with it.

Rules for nominated folks (in a post, not a comment):

  • Thank the blogger(s) who nominated you
  • Answer the 11 questions that the blogger gives you
  • Nominate 11 bloggers or so of your own choosing
  • Give them 11 questions
  • Let the bloggers know you nominated them

So here comes the questions that Tom supplied me with to answer for y’all.

1. What are your three favourite books?
“Shutter Island” by Dennis Lehane, “1984” by George Orwell, “Darkly Dreaming Dexter” by Jeff Lindsay. Any of these might change in the future (Except “Shutter Island”), but this is as it is now.

2. What animal are you most like?
I would probably say a dog, or possibly a sloth. I’m really lazy. but I try not to be a total dick to people. So maybe a combination of those two animals, a… Slog, if you will.

3. You have the power to stop one director from making any more films – which one do you choose? Why?
Maybe Paul W.S. Anderson, or Zack Snyder. Sure, they might both be very nice people, and they have both done stuff that I enjoy, but I feel like they have overstayed their welcome in one way or another.

4. Which film would you most want to take out into the middle of a field to smash up with a baseball bat (Office Space style!)?
There are a whole bunch of films that I could/would do this with for different reasons. But the first that comes to mind is “Jonah Hex” starring Josh Brolin. Great actor, fucking awful movie.

5. Which actor/actress would you like to wake up next to?
As one or two people who follow me might be aware of, I have a bit of a crush on Keri Russell, so I guess that might be it. Sure, she’s quite a bit older than me, but I can’t help it… she’s beautiful AND talented. Though this just begs the question what the circumstance is…

6. Choice of weapon for a zombie apocalypse?
A really long stick. Or something in the style of a sledgehammer. I want something that can give me some distance that doesn’t require ammunition and/or fuel. But to give more of a fun answer… landmines.

7. Going to the cinema or “Netflix and chill”?
Cinema. The big screen, the big surround sound, the overall experience. Plus, the “chill” bit of the latter option would be a bit distracting from the film (or TV show).

8. You fought the law – who won?
As a music nerd, this question amuses me. To answer it, uhm… the law won, because I’m weak and slow and my conscience would kick in faster than you can say “Oklahoma”.

9. Brand new, thrilling Hollywood blockbuster or obscure, fascinating foreign film?
Here’s the problem: Both have good things to offer. One offers fun, while the otehr offers depth. Hmmm… Foreign film, why the hell not?

10. Why do you blog? What kinds of blogs do you follow? What do you think of your site? 3 in one, there!
I blog because I started this blog in January of 2014 and realized after a while “Holy shit, this is actually fun”. I mostly follow blogs that relate in one way or another to movies. Sure, there are some otehr types too, but movies take up most of it. I think my site is dumb and I love it… kind of like “Sharknado”.

11. And finally, the favourite: Which 5 actors/actresses would you have at a dinner party?
Mark Ruffalo, Sam Rockwell, Keri Russell, Patrick Swayze, Jennifer Lawrence. They all seem like decent people who could be fun to hang around. And yes, I know Swayze is dead, but the question didn’t specifically say that it had to be a living actor/actress.

So here are the people that I nominate for this thingamajig:

I know it’s not 11 people, but I couldn’t think of 11 for this one… so five will have to do.

Time to supply you nominees with some questions that you will answer in your post.

1. What is the most overrated movie of all time?
2. What is your favorite game show?
3. Why did you start blogging?
4. Which actor/actres would you like to wake up next to?
5. Who is your favorite author?
6. Do you read comics?
7. What movie always manages to get you in a good mood?
8. Is there a city in your country that you haven’t been to that you would like to visit?
9. Favorite film director?
10. Have you ever been arrested?
11. What do you think of your site?

So once again, special thanks to Tom for nominating me for this thing that took a while to write. You’re awesome, man, stay plain and simple!
Have a good one!
