Marvel’s Avengers E3 2019 Trailer

Hello there. Time for more E3 stuff. So let’s… Assemble.

So thanks to E3, we finally have our first look/reveal of “Marvel’s Avengers”, an upcoming story-driven single player action game about… The fucking Avengers, I don’t need to explain who they are, their box office takings speak for themselves. So what’s happening here then? Well, shit goes awry, and the team has to save the world. And while I can’t say much, since there’s no real gameplay here, I do find this reveal a bit… bland, like they’re playing it safe. They lean into the aesthetics of the movies, and it all in general looks… meh. “Spider-Man”, the excellent Playstation 4 game released last year, shows that you can take established stuff and do something unique with it. And unless Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics gives us something more enticing in the near future, I will file this one under… meh. “Marvel’s Avengers” is set to be released on all major consoles on May 15th, 2020.

Movie Review: Avengers: Endgame (2019)

Can you guys believe it? 11 years and 22 movies. The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s ultimate culmination is finally here. It’s kind of mindblowing and impressive, regardless of one’s opinion on the movies themselves. So let’s get into it.

Ladies and gentlemen… “Avengers: Endgame”.

After the horrifying events in “Avengers: Infinity War”, the team feels somewhat defeated. But they still rise up to the occasion to find a way to fix what has been caused by Thanos (Josh Brolin). And I was scared going into this. Would they stick the landing? Well, guess what, they fucking did. It’s dramatic, tense, fun, emotional, and a perfect sendoff for this entire cinematic universe. And that is all I’m saying about that. I guess you could nitpick stuff, but I don’t want to. This is great. #DontSpoilTheEndgame

A shitload of characters return. Most of their development came from the other movies, but they did also get a little from this, and it just works really well. These are fully developed characters that I love. And the performances are great. Not gonna say all who are in this because there’s far too many. But holy fucking shit, there is not a weak link in this cast. All the actors do wonder with the great material they’re given.

As with “Infinity War”, the score was composed by Alan Silvestri. And in my review of that movie, I didn’t give the score enough credit. Yes, I had positive comments about it, but on subsequent rewatches of that movie, I’ve grown to love it a lot more. And the man somehow managed to fucking top himself with “Endgame”. The score manages to encapsulate all the epicness, emotion, and energy that the story needed flawlessly. Silvestri, I salute you.

They started with “The Winter Soldier”. They came back for “Civil War”. They took over the main mantle for “Avengers: Infinity War”. And they came to tie the bow on the gift that is “Endgame”. So yeah, their direction was great here too. These dudes know how to do big, epic action in a very human way, and it feels so great that they got the task to wrap this entire shebang up for now. Trent Opaloch’s cinematography is also absolutely amazing. And it goes without saying that the visual effects in this are absolutely spectacular. Hell, let’s give the visual effects crew some extra credit here for giving us some of the most impressive effects in movie history. The package is incredibly well put together.

This movie just came out, but it has already been incredibly well received. On Rotten Tomatoes it has a 96% positive rating and a “Fresh” certification. On Metacritic it has a score of 77/100. And on imdb.com it has a score of 9,1/10 and is ranked #5 on the “Top 250” list.

Yes I’m keeping it vague and brief here, but that’s what I have to do to not accidentally spoil it. Still, with that said, “Avengers: Endgame” is an absolutely marvelous movie and a perfect way to end the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it. It has a great plot, great characters, great performances, great music, and fantastic direction/writing/cinematography. Time for my final score. *Ahem*. My final score for “Avengers: Endgame” is a 9,90/10. So it gets the “SEAL OF APPROVAL!”.

Movie Review: Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)

This is a very special review. Some of you might think my reasoning for it is because both “Black Panther” and “Avengers: Infinity War” are coming out soon, and that could be a valid argument for it, but that is wrong in this case. I am reviewing this movie in honor of a friend who passed away recently. He was a big fan of the Captain, and I thought that this was the best way I could honor him on here. So here we go.

Ladies and gentlemen… “Captain America: The First Avenger”.

Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) is a young man who just wants to serve his country, but isn’t allowed due to his scrawny build. But one day he takes part in a secret government experiment that turns him into a super soldier. And shortly after this he finds himself on the path to taking down Hydra, an evil nazi death cult led by the evil Johann “Red Skull” Schmidt (Hugo Weaving). So now we have our origin story. And I have to say, I found myself more invested in the plot here than I did the first time I watched it. Sure, I’m not gonna sit here and pretend like this is the most original or even most well written plot ever, but it’s far from bad… in fact, it’s quite good. On one hand you get a fun WW2 adventure with a sci-fi twist, and on the other you get an inspiring tale of overcoming great adversity despite your limitations. The plot isn’t too deep and complicated, but it makes up for that in how inspiring and entertaining it is.

The characters here are unique, interesting, and entertaining. Chris Evans plays Steve Rogers/Captain America, a young man who’s been picked on most of his life. But despite this he has always stood up to bullies and bad people, always willing to give his life for what he cares about. He’s a truly inspiring character if I’ve ever seen one. And Evans is great in the role. Hayley Atwell plays Peggy Carter, a special agent that Steve works with throughout the movie. She’s tough but she does also have a more vulnerable side, making her feel a bit more layered than some characters with similar setups. And Atwell is great in the role. Then we have Tommy Lee Jones as colonel Chester Phillips, Steve’s superior and a tough but fair military man. And Tommy Lee Jones is very Tommy Lee Jones in the role… AKA really good. Then we have Hugo Weaving as Johann Schmidt, AKA Red Skull, AKA evil nazi death cult leader, AKA villain. And he’s suitably intimidating in the role, making the character a bit more interesting in the process. The character in itself isn’t very deep, but Weaving’s performance is what makes him so interesting and memorable. So yeah, Weaving is really good. Then we have Sebastian Stan as James “Bucky” Barnes, Steve’s best friend. You do get a good feel of their friendship and the character is decently interesting. And Stan is really good in the role. And throughout the movie you get some really solid supporting performances from people like Dominic Cooper, Stanley Tucci, Toby Jones, Neal McDonough, Kenneth Choi, Richard Armitage, Derek Luke, JJ Feild, and many more. It’s a very well acted movie.

The score for the movie was composed by Alan Silvestri and I thought it was pretty great. What I like about it is that it aims to capture the feel of inspiration and wonder that comes with Steve’s journey from Brooklyn boy to Captain America. And it does help build some decent tension at times. And in general the score really inspires me to want to go out and do some good. So yeah, the music is great.

The movie was directed by Joe Johnston and I think he did a really good job here. What I like about his direction is that he gives the movie a very retro vibe, often emulating action-adventures of the past. And I think that style really works well for the story and setting. It even bleeds through into the action scenes which are intense, badass, and just a ton of fun.

This movie has been pretty well received. On Rotten Tomatoes it has an 80% positive rating and a “Fresh” certification. On Metacritic it has a score of 66/100. Roger Ebert gave it 3/4 stars. And on imdb.com it has a score of 6,9/10.

While it isn’t necessarily the best MCU film, “Captain America: The First Avenger” is an inspiring and highly entertaining action movie. It has a really good plot, good characters, great performances, great music, and really good directing. Time for my final score. *Ahem*. My final score for “Captain America: The First Avenger” is a 9,60/10. Which means it gets the “SEAL OF APPROVAL!”.

Movie Review: Captain America: Civil War (2016)

While I am typically a guy who likes to play nice and not antagonize anyone I still feel like I have to gloat over the fact that I got to see this movie one week before the people in the US(C)A. BAHAHAHAHA!!! I win, rednecks!!!

Ladies and gentlemen… “Captain America: Civil War”.

After everything that happened by the end of “Age of Ultron”, “The Winter Soldier” and “The Avengers” (also because of something that happened early in this film), the team has been presented with something. This certain something is a sort of contract that will be signed by the U.N. (and “hopefully” by the heroes) that would prevent from taking on superhero jobs on their own. They would basically be under the control of governments and would only be used if deemed necessary. This creates a bit of a divide between the teammates with Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) being very positive to this, thinking it’s a great idea because of all the damage they have done. But on the other end of the spectrum we have Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) who’s all like “Hell no, that’s a bad idea”. And while this political (and evnetually physical) confrontation goes on, there are also some more personal problems going on for Cap when his old friend Bucky (Sebastian Stan) is seemingly framed for committing one of the biggest acts of terrorism in recent (MCU) history. So there are a bunch of stories going on, even a good amount more than I mentioned, but most of them are so small that I don’t deem the worthy of a mention. With so many stories at play, with so many characters being part of it, one would assume that it would just turn out messy and pretty terrible. But guys… you can’t believe how happy I am to say that it all turned out pretty well. And by pretty well I mean FUCKING AWESOME! There are a lot of things at play here, yes, but none of it feels shoehorned in but instead works perfectly. In lesser hands this plot would not have worked AT ALL, but thanks to the directors at hand and the writers we got a surprisingly dramatic and well written story that both entertained and intrigued me from start to finish. It’s both an action movie and a bit of a tought provoking political drama where you see both sides of the argument to a level of understanding they both come from. Yeah… it was a pretty great story in both idea and execution.

I think we can all agree that we know how great the main cast are in their respective roles considering we’ve seen ’em all so many times. I will jsut say however though that they are running on all cylinders here and have never been better. So let’s talk about the newever ones who haven’t really had interplay with the old characters. Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) had a seamless transition from solo to team player and was as hilarious (if not even more so) than in his own movie. Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) was a pretty good character who got a good introduction into the universe, with Boseman giving a great performance as him. But guys… the best has been (pretty much) saved for last… Tom Holland as Spider-Man. Mother of god, he is absolutely amazing! I am honestly not lying when saying that I think he might be the best Spider-Man/Peter Parker ever put to screen. He is funny, he is geeky, he is clever… HE’S SPIDER-MAN!!! I also wanna say that even though the main villain (not revealing who it is in case ya don’t know) isn’t that great, he still works for the story, at least I thought so by the end of it all. Yeah… we got a pretty great ensemble here. Oh yeah, we also got Mustach- I mean William Hurt back, making “The Incredible Hulk” canon again.

Like in the previous “Cap” film, the music was composed by Henry Jackman (No relation to Wolverine, I swear). And it was really good. The big, orchestral pieces for the big action scenes were there (and were great). The smaller, more dramatic tunes were there (and were great). And then there were other tracks I can’t pinpoint what they could be called (but was still great).

Like with “The Winter Soldier”, this movie was directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. And once again they did a fantastic job directing it. Shots look great and they seem to have perfect control over the entire situation. The action is just like in “Winter Soldier” really great, with there being a lot of gritty and honestly, brutal, CQC fights. Sure, there is a bit of cmaera shake in there, but I see this more as Paul Greengrass shake rather than Rob Cohen *Deep sigh* shake. And that big airport fight that has been teased in trailers and otehr types of advertisements? Yeah, I loved it and think it is one of the absolute best action scenes in any superhero movie EVER. It’s tense, exciting, badass and even funny. Seriously, there is some pretty hilarious stuff in that fight. And I mean GENUINELY hilarious, not “That was shit, let’s laugh at it” hilarious. Speaking of which, for such a dramatic movie there is a surprising amount of humor… all of it actually landing very well for me. Plenty of snappy/funny dialogue, gags and overall lines that are all just great. Also, stay in your seats, people… there are two things after the film’s finished; one mid-credits and one after-credits scene.

Keep in mind that these scores may alter a lot considering it hasn’t come out everywhere yet, this is just as it is right now (as of this review). On Rotten Tomatoes it has a 94% positive rating and a “Fresh” certification. On Metacritic it has a score of 81/100. And on imdb.com it has a score of 8,7/10 and is ranked #86 on the “Top 250” list.

“Captain America: Civil War” is the latest MCU movie and I honestly might think it’s one of the absolute best. Like… Top 2 or 3 best. IT has a really great story, great characters/acting, great music, great directing, great action and great humor. Time for my final score. UNDEROOS!!! *Spider-Man tosses envelope to Markus*. My final score for “Captain America: Civil War” is a 9,90/10. It does get the “SEAL OF APPROVAL!”.

We got another “Captain America: Civil War” Trailer

Good evening there, my friends. Once again it is time for me to talk about a new movie trailer that has come out. And for the second time it is a trailer for “Captain America: Civil War” that I am talking about. Oooo boy, this is a doozy. Let’s get into it.

Starting off, it is another dramatic and intense look at the movie. We get explosions and badassery and dramatic shots of Cap (Chris Evans) and everyone else. Okay, let’s talk about what I liked about this trailer.
I like that they are acknowledging that “Incredible Hulk” happened by having “Thunderbolt” Ross (William Hurt) in it because I am one of the few that actually liked that movie. I also love some of the drama that this movie seems to set up, a lot of it looks prety interesting and for a lack of a better word, dramatic. We also get some new shots of Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) which look badass, can’t wait to see what they’ll do with him in the movie. We also get a pretty good shot of Crossbones (Frank Grillo) punching someone’s fucking face really hard. Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) also gets a really cool shot.
*Sigh*. Now to the one thing about it that I didn’t like… and it’s something I’m gonna get major flak for. *Deep breath*. Here we go.
I don’t like that they showed Spider-Man (Tom Holland) in the trailer. I love the design they went with for the suit, but the fact that the studio sucked up to the masses and showed him in the trailer actually makes me a bit sad. Why couldn’t they wait with showing him until the movie came out? *Sniff*.

The “Captain America: Civil War” trailer is officially here

How are you doing today guys? I just came here to share the latest big trailer that just dropped. Yes, I rarely touch upon trailers for movies, television or games, but this time I felt that somethign that I really wanted to talk about dropped. As the title of the post suggests, this is the recently (last night) released trailer for the highly anticipated “Captain America: Civil War”. So here we go!

I first off wanted to say that I was a huge fan of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and was therefore incredibly happy to see that the Russo brothers who directed that movie would be returning for this one because “The Winter Soldier” was an awesome movie. It was dark, it was badass and it was intense and it looks like this  new one might be very intense as well. I would put it like this: the last “Cap” movie I felt was kind of like a mix of “Metal Gear Solid”, “The Rock” and of course “Captain America” which really sounds like the best combination ever.

So what is the plot of the movie? Well it is basically a retelling of the classic “Civil War” comic, only without the rest of the Marvel universe. That’s right, since the rights of the characters are split up between several movie studios, you will not get to see characters like Wolverine or the Fantastic Four. But the basic plot of the “Civil War” is that the government have gotten sick of superpowered beings (and Iron Man) running around in a very uncontrolled manner and doing their thing, too destructive and such. So they put up a regulation that prevent them from doing that. Of  course, Steve Rogerrs (Captain America) is not very happy about that, so he stands against it with a bunch of other characters. But on the other end of the spectrum we have Tony Stark (Iron Man) who is completely for this, being in favor of the regulations. So this of course ceates a bit of a conflict and starts a bit of a… civil war. Now since we don’t have the entire Marvel universe to have fun with, the movie will focus more on the Avengers splitting into teams, fighting eachother with the newest additions of Black Panther and (apparently) Spider-Man (Sidenote: Spidey did play a huge part in the comic) to the MCU. But even though there are limitations on which characters will be in the movie, we still seem to have a good amount that will show up and join in on the fight. Even general Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross (William Hurt) and his awesome mustache will make a return, being the one giving Cap the news of the regulation (as shown in the trailer).

I can at least say that based on the cast and trailer that I am pretty hyped about this movie. Hell, I’d even dare say that I think it will be pretty fucking awesome. I’ll leave a link to the trailer so you can check it out for yourselves and then maybe tell me what you thought about it.

My Favorite Scenes: Captain America: The Winter Soldier – Elevator Scene

Hello, friends! I’m here again to share a scene from a movie/show/thing with you that I highly enjoyed. And what do we have this time? We have the badass elevator scene from the badass action movie “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”. In this scene we see Cap (Chris Evans) trying to fight a bunch of people who he thought he could trust. This scene is how action should be done when either in a confined space or in general. I really enjoyed this scene and I hope you do to!

My Top 13 Action Movies

Hello, hello, hello! Nice to have you here, my friends! Let’s start by saying thank you to you guys who have been sticking around for my weird shenanigans for a longer period. Not mentioning any specific names because… well, I don’t remember who have been with me since early on. And you who arrived here recently I thank as well because you decided to start following me, it warms my heart. Now that we got all that fluffy shit out of the way, let’s talk about macho stuff! Action movies! They are awesome and provide a lot of entertainment (mostly) and are really fun to just watch since they rarely make you feel bad or make you think too much. And today we are here to talk about my 13 favorite action movies. Now before we begin we have to establish some rules.

#1: This is my list, so don’t start bitching when a movie you like isn’t on the list or if a movie you dislike is on the list. My opinion and ego is the center of attention here.

#2: As much as I would love to put movies like “Guardians of the Galaxy” or “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly” on this list I am not going to. This is a list that is made up of movies mainly focusing on action, so sci-fi is not fit for it. I can say now though that a few movies with sci-fi elements in them will appear but they don’t rely on it overly much. Westerns are (unfortunately) out of the game to. And while you would expect me to put “Drive” on this list, I can’t. I see “Drive” more as a drama/thriller with action bits in it.

#3: This list will not look the same in the future, I am sure of that much. There will be more action movies added to it (not editing this post for that). So while this list isn’t forever definitive, it is like this as of when it was made.

And finally I want to mention any good action movies I didn’t, feel free to leave a comment, I would love to hear your thoughts.
So let’s stop standing on the same spot, let’s go… My Top 13 action movies!

Number 13: Sherlock Holmes: A game of Shadows (2011)

Kicking off the list the sequel to the pretty successful movie “Sherlock Holmes” starring Robert Downey Jr. This is one occasion where I think the sequel is more enjoyable than the first. I seem to be the only one thinking that though. Trust me, I really like the first one too, but I think I prefer this on an entertainment level and as an action movie. Plus, this movie has more of James Moriarty (Jared Harris) than the first movie. And I like that. Now this is as low on the list because, well I think the other movies are better action movies (and movies in general) than this. But I do like this movie a good amount.

Number 12: Batman Begins (2005)

I’ve always loved that picture of Batman, it looks so cool! Oh crap, right… action movies! Putting a Batman movie in the list is a bit of a no-brainer. But which one? Most people would probably choose “The Dark Knight” and I can respect that. But my pick is my favorite of the Nolan Batman movies, “Batman Begins”. And while I think the title is a little funny “Batman Begins”, a sequel should have been called “Batman Continues” and then “Batman Quits”… hehe. Sorry, getting off track. But despite the somewhat silly title I love this movie. Sure, I love the entire trilogy but this is my favorite of them all. The action is nothing short of great and it helps that this movie knows how to tell a great story as well based on everybody’s favorite flying rodent. Plus, Christian Bale is perfect in this movie as Batman. To be honest, everyone in the movie does a great job with their performances. But I love this movie and think it is a great action movie.

Number 11: Die Hard (1988)

Yippee ki-yay motherfucker, it’s “Die Hard”. The movie that solidified Bruce Willis as not only an actor, but also an action star. And man is it a good one! And some of you might be thinking “Die Hard so low!? Fuck you man!”. And then I will have to refer you to rule #1: No bitching. Second of all, I really love “Die Hard”. It is a great action movie. Plus, be glad it is on my list in general! It is here for a reason and that is that I think it is a great action movie… and it’s set during christmas. So it’s a great action and christmas movie!

Number 10: Sin City (2005)

This movie is pretty violent. But the violence in this movie is one of the things that makes it so unique. Another one is the badass color palette. I am aware “Schindler’s List” used a similar style, but “Sin City” did it in a way that gives it an edge. This movie is big, bold and badass, which happens to be something a critic said about 2014’s “The Guest”. But this was big, bold and badass before that so… “Sin City”! The action in this movie is brutal and awesome. And like I said before, the color palette makes it so much cooler. This movie is awesome.

Number 9: Cowboy Bebop: The movie (2001)

In my rules, I said that extreme science fiction and westerns were ruled out… I never said anything about animation. Sure, this has sci-fi and it has a bit of western in it’s title, but it is more of an action movie than anything. I am a huge fan of the “Cowboy Bebop” television show. I would go as far to say that it is my second favorite anime show of all time. But back to the movie! It got (like the show) excellent animation by Studio Sunrise, a kickass soundtrack and the best dub in animation history. Steve Blum IS Spike Spiegel! The action is also really kickass, like the show. I love this movie so much and thought it was a good tie-in to the show. It isn’t a sequel, it is set during the show…ish. But I do still recommend that you watch the show first to get to know the characters and then come back and watch this movie because it is so awesome!

Number 8: Casino Royale (2006)

Yeah, a James Bond movie made it to the list. And damn is it a good one! Not only did it eliminate my doubts about Daniel Craig being Bond, but it was also a lot better in general than I thought it would be. It had a great plot, a fucking awesome opening theme (Chris Cornell – You know my Name), great performances and some really great and intense action sequences. Not only is this number 8 on my list over favorite action movies, but it is also my favorite James Bond movie. “Casino Royale” is a great movie that is perfect in being both a great friday night action movie and a really good character-driven drama.

Number 7: Heat (1995)

Going a little bit old school again with this 1995 action/drama/crime/thriller from director Michael Mann (who later this month comes out with “Blackhat”). This movie is pretty great, and not only because it is on my list. It manages to be more than a simple heist-action movie. It is a heavily character-driven and really well told story. But how does it do in the action department? It is pretty great actually! And the acting in the movie is pretty great too. But that should have been obvious considering the three main stars are Al Pacino, Robert De Niro and Val Kilmer… and Jon Voight… Tom Sizemore… getting off track. But when action happens in this movie it is glorious. It is intense, it is badass and it is grand! It takes up a lot of space in the awesomeness room. “Heat” is one of those movies that may be very long, but it is still so worth seeing!

Number 6: Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014).

Like with “Cowboy Bebop” this movie may have sci-fi elements in it, but it is mainly an action movie mixed with some spy-espionage-thriller elements. And for that I have to salute Marvel for making a really awesome movie. A great twisty-turny story, great performances, great music reminiscent of “Metal Gear Solid” and some of the greatest action in a movie in recent years. I loved seeing this and I will definitely watch it again some time. It is a great action movie!

Number 5: Taken (2008)

Don’t piss off Liam Neeson, he will kill you with his pinky finger. “Taken” was one of those movies that really surprised me in how great it was. Did I expect it to be this great? No. Did I expect to hate it? Not really. Did I like it? It should be obvious since it is on the list. Sure, some of the action was hidden behind shaky-cam, but a lot of the action was still really great. I also really liked the plot of a man who is like the deadliest father ever go and look for his kidnapped daughter halfway across the world… and also kick a lot of ass during his little “visit” there. I also love Liam Neeson, the guy is a great actor. This movie also gave us something we never knew we wanted that would become what we love now… Liam Neeson doing action things. Yeah, this movie was awesome.

Number 4: Dirty Harry (1971)

From one badass of an older age to another, it is the original badass himself… Clint Eastwood! This has to be one of his most iconic roles/movies, everybody knows about “Dirty” Harry Callahan. He is one of those badasses you don’t want pursuing you because he will growl you to death… if doesn’t kill you with his .44 magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world that can blow your head clean off, so you gotta ask yourself “Do I feel lucky?” Well do ya, PUNK!?

Number 3: Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)

How could I not? This is the definite sequel! This is the one example I can give when someone asks “Is there a sequel to a movie that is better than the original?” and then I go “Terminator 2”. That is how it always goes and will always go. This is what a sequel should be; improve on the original. And don’t get me wrong, I really like the original “Terminator”, but this movie basically grabs it by the collar and throws it out the window. Hell, even the theme song (which is the same as the original) is better. And the visual effects are so much better! Both the practical ones and the CGI ones. I adore this movie so much.

Number 2: The Matrix (1999)

Oh come on, you expected this movie to be on the list somewhere! It got some of the best action scenes ever put in any movie ever! It’s also the movie that really gave us Hugo Weaving who plays one of the best villains in movie history. I would also say it is Keanu Reeves’ best performance (Sidenote: Take to mind that I have not seen “John Wick” yet which a fair amount of people seem to say has the best Keanu performance ever). Still, think what he would be like if he put a little of that one scene I have seen from “Point Break” in this movie. “I, AM, A, COMPUTER, HACKER!” That would have been pretty hilarious. But still, “The Matrix” is a great action movie and one of my personal movies of all time.

Number 1: Inception (2010)

Yes this is technically an action movie. But a very ambitious and brain-driven movie. And even if you don’t like overly complex stuff, you still get a really good amount of action the movie to be entertained for about two hours. It also got some amazing visual effects, great performances, great music and one of the coolest concepts ever. I love this movie so much in terms of the whole action movie thing and as a movie in general. I am going to say it, “Inception” is one of my favorite movies of all time.

As you may have noticed this list isn’t really ranked based on how much action or explosions there are, but more on my opinion of the movie itself and it of course being an action movie. Movie Review: Captain America – The Winter Soldier (2014)

I have noticed in recent years how Marvel is really stepping up their game when it comes to their movies. Not only are they making a whole bunch of them, but people also seem to really love them. I am a guy who really likes a good Marvel movie. You might remember that I did a review of “Guardians of the Galaxy” around september of 2014 and gave it a really good score. But that isn’t the only Marvel movie I like a lot, I love a bunch other ones as well such as “Iron Man” and “The incredible Hulk”. And those are only some of the Marvel/Disney studio movies, there are also the Sony/Fox movies. But that isn’t relevant in this case. Today we are taking a look at the 2014 film set within Marvel’s “Phase 2”. So what did I think of it? Let’s find out!

Ladies and gentlemen… “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”.

This movie as you may know is the sequel to 2011’s “Captain America: The First Avenger” but also follows 2012’s “The Avengers” (Sidenote: If you want me to review those two movies, you just tell me). We see Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) living in our modern times. But one day the organization S.H.I.E.L.D (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforment and Logistic Division) whom he works for starts chasing him down. And at the same time he has to keep his eye out for this mysterious new threat “The Winter Soldier” (Not saying who it is if you don’t actually know sice the twist is kinda cool, also roll credits). I am not going to say more about this plot because it is filled with twist after twist after twist… and it works. The Plot of this movie is excellent with some really clever writing and really cool twists like I mentioned earlier. Rarely have I seen a superhero movie with a plot this clever, suspenseful and politically aware. I loved seeing it unfold.

The characters in this movie are all great. They really showed that these people are more than characters, they are really people. Steve Rogers/Captain America is a surprisingly relatable character with some great dialogue and is portrayed excellently by Chris Evans. Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) is a really well-written, badass and infinitely sexy character. She really worked and I liked how she was portrayed in this movie. She has gone from sexy badass to sexy badass person. And yes, Johansson portrayes her perfectly. Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is also really great. The biggest reason I liked him in previous movies is becuase of Samuel L. Jackson’s charisma and talent. But here he actually gets some depth to the character and he actually gets some stuff to do. Do I even have to mention that Jackson’s performance is good? I mean, come on… it’s Samuel L. Jackson. But by far, my favorite character in this movie has to be the one of Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie). Not only did he provide some great comic relief, but he was also pretty deep and you could really believe him as a character. Plus, I love his wingsuit… it’s badass. It was also nice seeing Robert Redford in this movie. His character was really good and fit the movie. The performance was of course great since you know, it is Robert Redford.

The score by Henry Jackman reminds me a lot of two things. Firstly there are tracks which are typical superhero movie songs. Not bad ones at all, but you recognize the style… big and epic. Then we have the tracks which reminds me of the “Metal Gear Solid” games. I don’t know why they do that, but I don’t mind! Which is fitting considering that this movie (never mentioned it before which I actually should’ve… oops) is not only a badass action movie, but also a sort of spy-espionage-thriller. But I don’t mind getting a little “Metal Gear” in my Marvel. It just hightens it. But the soundtrack was great.

This movie is very well-directed. The shots are great and the camera work in general is great. I also have ot mention that the action in this movie is pretty fucking great. Not only is there pretty minimal CGI within the action, but you can also notice a lot of great stunt work and close quarters combat in this movie. Sure there is a bit of shaky-cam in this movie, but it doesn’t ruin it. It gives the movie a pretty stylish feeling, kind of like the “Bourne” trilogy which likes this movie happens to be an action franchise with some espionage stuff in it. I also found the political things in this movie really intriguing and really gave the movie an edge over most superhero movies. Another thing I liked about this movie gives off the feeling of Captain America actually being able to die. This movie puts the characters in peril and makes it so much more suspenseful… they might die. And that makes the action so much better since you know they really are in danger. Good job, writers!

This movie was really well-received when it came out. It has an 89% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes. On Metacritic it has a score of 70/100. And on imdb it has a 7,8/10.

“Captain America: The Winter Solder” got a great plot with some great twists, great characters, great music, political intrigue, spy-thriller elements and some of the best action in recent years from a Hollywood movie. So now it is time for my final score. *Gets thrown envelope* Woaw, thanks Cap! My final score for “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is a 9,76/10 which as you should know by know gets it (say it with me)… the “SEAL OF APPROVAL!”

Since this movie was so good I am really curious to see how the Russo brothers handles “Captain America: Civil War”.
