Movie Review: John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019)

Keanu fucking Reeves. Started out promisingly in comedies, dramas, and various action flicks. Then around 2008 he kind of dropped off the mainstream map after a few… less than critically well received movies. Then in 2014 he starred in “John Wick”, which gave his career the adrenaline boost it needed. And now he seems to be back on top. And I say, good for him. So let’s talk about his latest flick. Oh, and spoilers for the end of “John Wick: Chapter 2”, because that ties into this… sorry.

Ladies and gentlemen… “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum”.

After killing a member of the High Table, the ever tenacious John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is rendered excommunicado, with a 14 million dollar bounty on his head, and must fight for survival as he encounters trouble at every corner. So now we have our constantly moving action story. From a storytelling perspective, these movies aren’t what you’d call “high art”. But I don’t need that. It’s just our hero being relentlessly pursued in an interesting, very comic book-esque world. And that makes for a fun bit of garnish in-between all the shooty-bang-bangs and fisticuffs. The story is present enough that it adds something to the experience, but not so up its own ass that it distracts from everything else. It’s fun.

The characters in this are colorful and pretty interesting. Just like I mentioned with the plot, they feel very much like they’re ripped right out of a comic book. Keanu Reeves of course returns as title character John Wick. A man who lost everything, then is given a new chance, and then shit hits the fan again. He’s endured a lot, and I find him to be a strong and engaging action protagonist that I care about a fair bit. He even gets some decent development here too. And Reeves is really good in the role. And the supporting cast, which includes people like Ian McShane, Lance Reddick, Laurence Fishburne, Mark Dacascos, Halle Berry, Anjelica Huston, Asia Kate Dillon, and many more, is pretty fucking good.

As with the previous two movies, the score for “Parabellum” was composed by Tyler Bates and Joel J. Richard. And like the previous two movies, this score is awesome. It once again takes the approach of mixing very electronic stuff with some sick rock beats and occasional guitar screeching to make a sound that is distinctly “John Wick”. And it’s just as tense, exciting, badass, and pleasing to my ears as the last two times.

Chad Stahelski returned to direct this third entry in the franchise he helped create. And dude’s direction just gets better with each iteration. A clear focus, wonderful long takes, and a great sense of energy. The cinematography by Dan Laustsen is absolutely breathtaking, with some beautiful use of colors. And let’s talk about the thing we all watch these movies for: The action. Fuck me, it is amazing. It’s real, it’s visceral, it’s fun, it’s violent, it’s clear… it just comes together beautifully. You can see everything that happens, which also let’s you see just how much work has gone into the fucking choreography. There are also some rather creative kills throughout the movie too, and they add even more to it. It’s very well crafted, this movie.

This movie has been very well received. On Rotten Tomatoes it has a 90% positive rating and a “Fresh” certification. On Metacritic it has a score of 73/100. And on imdb.com it has a score of 8,0/10.

“John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” is one of the most impressive action movies of this decade, and I absolutely loved it. It has a good plot, good characters, great performances, great music, and great directing/cinematography/action. Time for my final score. *Ahem*. My final score for “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” is a 9,89/10. So it gets the “SEAL OF APPROVAL!”.

My review of “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” is now completed.

You’d think the people constantly coming after John would take a hint that you don’t fuck with the Baba Yaga.

“Kingsman: The Golden Circle” trailer!

Another interesting trailer has been released. Let’s talk about it!

So we have finally gotten a trailer for “Kingsman: The Golden Circle”, the sequel to the surprisingly awesome “Kingsman: The Secret Service” from 2015. To quickly recap that movie: Eggsy (Taron Egerton) is a troubled young man that gets recruited by a man named Harry Hart (Colin Firth) to potentially join the Kingsmen, a super secret James Bond-ish organization of dapper spies. And there’s a villain played by Samuel L. Jackson and awesome action and humor ensues. It was a great movie. So what’s going on in this one then? Well it seems like the base of the Kingsmen gets blown to kingdom come. So Eggsy, Merlin (Mark Strong), and Roxy (Sophie Cookson) will have to team up with the Statesmen, the American version of the Kingsmen, to stop this movie’s villain (Julianne Moore). And we see some plot and some really cool action, to Frank Sinatra’s “My Way”. Oh and, spoiler for the first “Kingsman” coming up.
At the end of the trailer we find out that Harry Hart is alive despite being presumed dead at the end of the first movie. So what do I think? Well, this looks like a lot of fun. Not sure if this will be able to live up to the first movie, but I am at least sure that it will be one hell of a good time. “Kingsman: The Golden Circle” is set to be released in late September of this year.

What are your thoughts? Are you excited about “Kingsman: The Golden Circle”? And what are your thoughts on the first movie? Leave any and all thoughts in the comments!
Have a good one and enjoy the trailer!

Top 10 Sexiest Actresses

Wut wut

Ladies, gentlemen and others… it is time. Time for another Top 10, that is. If you had a look around my blog yesterday/the day before I posted a little poll where you could vote for what my next Top 10 would be. To be honest, not many people voted unfortunately which led to there being a tie. The tie was between “Top 10 Batman Movies” and “Top 10 exiest actresses”, the latter of which I suspect my good friend Vinnieh suggested. But seeing as there was a tie at the end of the deadline, I had to figure out how to decide. So I did it the old-fashioned way and flipped a coin and this won. So here we go.

Ladies and gentlemen… My Top 10 Sexiest Actresses.

Rule #1: Same as always; my list, go bitch about someone not sharing your opinion somewhere else.

Rule 2: Which actresses qualify for this? Those who I consider sexy/hot/attractive/beautiful. If you do not agree with what I consider hot/beautiful, read rule #1 and come back when you understand it.

Rule #3: In this list there is no rule #3.

Let’s go!

Number 10: Gwyneth Paltrow.
Gwyneth-Paltrow-Feet-938857

Someone who has been considered one of if not the most attractive woman in the world makes it in to number 10 and for good reason. She is a gorgeous woman. Those blue eyes, the great golden hair and overall gorgeous style puts her here at number 10.

Number 9: Halle Berry.
52aafcb783a79c13cfaa4b604e5ba237

How could I not include this dark skinned beauty? For fuck’s sake, she turns 49 later this year and she still looks fantastic! Okay, this picture looks like it might be a few years old… but still. She is one beautiful lady who also happen to be a terrific actor. Also, if you have seen the Bond movie “Die Another Day” you know how great she looks in a bikini.

Number 8: Jennifer Connelly.
148946-500w

This dark-haired beauty has over the past few years become one of my favorite actors, proving herself with movies like “Requiem for a Dream”, “A Beautiful Mind” and “Blood Diamond”. She also happens to be pretty damn attractive with those pretty eyes and the aforementioned dark hair. She is a beautiful woman.

Number 7: Margot Robbie.
6759cab508966de20cca8cd49ed4c036a3f3fd1426406c7ba21bad3d3f8bb9f4_large

I had never even heard of her before I watched “The Wolf of Wall Street last year” (Where she was terrific by the way) and I haven’t seen her in anything since then. But I can say that I both curious and a little excited to see her play Harley Quinn in next year’s “Suicide Squad”. Until then we can at least appreciate those gorgeous eyes, beautiful hair and overall pretty face.

Number 6: Maggie Gyllenhaal.
687c6e990515da75a50df237e496614d

Here we have the sister of one of my favorite actors (Jake Gyllenhaal). And to give credit where credit is due, she is also a really good actor. Not as good as her brother, but still really good. But the little she lacks in acting skills (compared to her brother) she makes up for in beauty. She captured me with those amazing eyes of hers (Sidenote: As you may have noticed, I am a sucker for eyes) and that really pretty smile.

Number 5: Charlize Theron.
charlize_1-465x390

This South African beauty goes in for one of the top spots. It is easy to see why so many people call her one of the most beautiful people in the world. Just look at her! Not only in this picture, but on pretty much every picture out there. Except from the movie “Monster” because in that she looks terrifying. But if you stay away from those pictures you’ll be fine. Also, did you know she’s married to Sean Penn? I sure as hell didn’t until I made this list.

Number 4: Karen Gillan.
7dccdbcda8f8b0e3b231909db3e0d0c9

A lot of people will go “Who?”. But the majority of the people who know who she is probably know her from her time on “Doctor Who” as Amy Pond. Not only is that red hair beautiful to look at, but her eyes too are some of the most beautiful I have ever seen. Also, going back to what I first said, you regular people have probably seen her without realizing it. She played the blue alien Nebula in “Guardians of the Galaxy”.

Number 3: Scarlett Johansson.
40a8-c1cee2-9998db

Fucking duh.

Number 2: Jennifer Lawrence.
jennifer-lawrence-12a

One of the few celebrities in recent times that (properly) show off that curves are beautiful. She isn’t one those that has to be ultra skinny or have the biggest ass/boobs, she knows that good curves come naturally. Plus, she is overall a truly gorgeous woman. She is also a fantastic actress.

Honorable mentions: Linda Hamilton (circca 1991), Mila Kunis, Carey Mulligan. Anne Hathaway.

NUMBER 1: Keri Russell!
Keri-Russell-keri-russell-158900_1280_1024

Yes, yes, yes! Keri Russell is my choice for number 1. Why? Well… look at her! Beautiful eyes, gorgeous hair (both her old curly hair and her current non-curly hair). There is no actress I think exceeds her in beauty. She is a beautiful woman who I hope to see more of in the future!

I know my descriptions were kind of vague, but I did my best with it. So what are some of your favorite sexy/beautiful/hot actresses? Leave a comment.

Have a good one.

Movie Review: X-men – Days of Future Past (2014)

x_men_days_of_future_past_poster-High-Definition-www.hdwallpapers3d.co_1-1366x768

I love Marvel, you love Marvel, please Marvel give us a super crossover with all franchises and stop bitching about who gets what rights. Sorry, had to get that out of my system. To be completely honest I did grow up on Marvel more than DC. As a kid I watched shows like “Spider-man” or “X-Men: Evolution“. I guess I’ve always been a Marvel guy (But I do still love me some good DC stuff). I think that “X-men” have been a franchise that interested me more than most because of how diverse the characters and their powers are. You have a guy with Metal Claws and super healing and then one with Laser vision and a Demon Smurf who can teleport. Sorry, getting off track (But only a little). I simply love “X-men”. So of course I saw the movies that had their ups and downs. But now we have another one, directed by the guy who did the first two (Sidenote: He also did “The Usual Suspects”). So is this any good? Or should we burn that shit? Let’s have a look!

(X)Men and (X)women… “X-Men: Days of Future Past”.

So what is the plot of this movie? The future is complete shit. The mutants are being hunted down by these giant robots called Sentinels who were originally created by Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage). So what do our Mutant heroes do to try to stop them? They decide to send Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) back in time to stop the creation of them. Back in time he teams up with young Professor Xavier (James McAvoy) and young Hank McCoy/Beast (Nicholas Hoult) to stop Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) from causing the creation of the sentinels (Trust me, the movie will explain how that works). And while Wolverine is in the past doing his thing the other Mutants have to try to fend off the Sentinels attacking them. This plot might seem like it is all over the damn place but trust me, it is inredibly focused and well-written. I found the story to be engaging, suspenseful and just fantastic. I really loved how they handled it.

The characters in this movie never feel cluttered or underused, they all fit perfectly into this movie. And there are a lot of characters in this movie. They brought in pretty much everyone from the “X-men” franchise into this movie. And like I said, no one felt out of place, they all worked and were very unique an fleshed out. Here, let me mention some of the characters I missed earlier; Storm (Halle Berry), Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page), Iceman (Shawn Ashmore), Bishop (Omar Sy), Colossus (Daniel Cudmore) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender/Ian McKellen). But by far, the best character in the entire movie (My opinion) has to be Quicksilver (Evan Peters). He was pretty fucking awesome. There was also a risk using him since he could have been annoying… but he wasn’t. He was nothing but pure awesome, definitely my favorite in the movie. And I do not think I have to mention anything about the acting considering the cast. You have seen pretty much everyone in this movie in one way or another in previous insallments of the franchise or in other movies. They all gave great performances.

The score by John Ottman was nothing short of fantastic. Orchestral tracks for all kinds of situations. Need something for a big fight? You got it! Need something for a more subtle and quieter scene? Done! This soundtrack got it all! Besides, I might be slightly biased considering my love for many of John Ottman’s other works. Anyway, the score was awesome.

The way this movie was directed really hightened the experience for me. I already knew Bryan Singer was a great director with movies like the first two “X-men” movies and “The Usual Suspects” that I mentioned before. But this movie is probably his most well-directed one yet. It looks beautiful and never lingers on anything too long. The CGI in this movie was also really impressive. Sure, previous movies have shown great CGI too, but this is where you just Marvel (puns…) at it. It is magnificent. The action in this movie is also really great. It really gets better with the CGI too since it can elevate the scene since that is the only way these characters can really show their powers. I also have to mention how dark this movie gets at a few points. I mean sure, other Sci-fi action movies have been dark before, but this came as a big surprise to me. “X-men” movies haven’t been this dark before. And that really gave this movie a great edge.

People (and critics) really seemed to like this movie. On Rotten Tomatoes this movie has a 91% positive score and a “Fresh” certification. On Metacritic it has a score of 74/100. And finally on imdb.com it has an 8,1/10 and is ranked #204 on the “Top 250” list.

“X-Men: Days of Future Past” got a great story, great characters/acting, a great soundtrack, great visual effects, great action, great emotion, great humor and is delightfully dark. Now for the final score. Hey, Wolverine, will you help me cut this envelope open? Thank you! My final score for “X-Men: Days of Future Past” is a 9,82/10. This movie is great and of course gets the “SEAL OF APPROVAL!”

“X-Men: Days of Future Past” is now reviewed.

How in the hell will “X-Men: Apocalypse” be able to  top this?
