My Most Anticipated Movies 2018

Hello there, my friends! It is that time of the year again where I talk about my most anticipated movies of 2018. And I am aware that we’re already a week into 2018, but the movie year hasn’t really begun for me. So I am still safe in making this list. So here we go.

Just a couple of rules first.

Rule #1: My list. These are my most anticipated movies of the year. If you’re not excited for any of these or I didn’t include any that you’re excited about, then make your own list. These are MY most anticipated movies of the year. Not necessarily the ones I think will be the best, just the ones I am interested in seeing. In no particular order.

Rule #2: I will not include any late releases here. You know, those that have a limited release in like December and then come to other countries in the first quarter of the next year. So stuff like “Wind River”, “Three Billboards”, and “Shape of Water” are not included on this list (though I am excited for those too).

That’s it for rules this time. Here are my most anticipated movies of 2018.

Number 1: The Commuter.

First up we have “The Commuter”, the latest collaboration between Liam Neeson and director Jaume Collet-Serra. I’ve enjoyed all of their previous collaboration, I find them to be enjoyable little thrillers. None of them are genuinely great movies, but I find them to be entertaining, good ways to kill two hours. And this looks to be another entertaining one form the duo. And with people like Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson in the cast it’s sure to get some great acting in it.

Number 2: Deadpool 2.

I love “Deadpool”. It’s one of those movies that I was worried about, since FOX haven’t always been the kindest to the X-Movies. But I saw it and I had a blast. And “Deadpool 2” seems to be continuing what the first movie started. It looks like it will be as (if not more) insane as the first movie, while also introducing classic Deadpool allies Cable (Josh Brolin) and Domino (Zazie Beetz). But yeah, I’m excited.

Number 3: Black Panther.

After his awesome debut in “Captain America: Civil War”, I was excited to see Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) getting his own solo movie. Then the trailer came out, and I got even more excited because it looked badass. and with it coming out now in February, the hype is growing more and more. And even if it doesn’t turn out to be some fantastic movie, I am more than certain that it will be another cool and fun entry in the Marvel Cinematic universe.

Number 4: Avengers: Infinity War.

Yeah, I decided to go straight for the throat on this entry. The culmination of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. The big war featuring most if not all the heroes against the mighty Thanos (Josh Brolin). This looks like it will be a big and awesome action movie, but I also feel like there will be some great character moments in it, based on what came before and what this is. The hype is real.

Number 5: Ready Player One.

Here we have an interesting entry. Based on a book by Ernest Cline, “Ready Player One” tells the story of Wade (Tye Sheridan), a young man using a virtual reality world to try to win a competition that would grant him a lot of money. I love the book, and was scared when I heard that they were adapting it. But Spielberg has proven himself before, so I will try to be optimistic. It looks interesting, and features tons of fun easter eggs in it. So yeah, player one is ready.

Number 6: Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

While “Jurassic World” wasn’t anywhere near as great as “Jurassic Park” (contrary to what my original review more or less said), it was still a fun action-adventure featuring dinosaurs. “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” looks to be that, but bigger, more explosive, and not as good. Not saying it will be bad (it’s on this list for a reason), but it has revealed a lot in the trailer… and a lot of it looks just… fine. Will I go see it opening week? You bet your ass, I am. But I will go in with restrained expectations.

Number 7: The Incredibles 2.

“The Incredibles” is a great movie, one of my favorites from Pixar. And Brad Bird is a good director. So I have a lot of faith that this will be good. By the way, why in the flying fuck did we get TWO “Cars” sequels before we even got ONE “Incredibles” sequel? Makes no god damn sense. But yeah, “Incredibles” is one I’m quite excited for.

Number 8: Annihilation.

Alex Garland has written some great movies. He also wrote and directed the excellent “Ex Machina”. And now we’re getting another movie that was written and directed by him. It stars Natalie Portman and is about some scientists going into some strange zone. And it looks good. I like me a solid sci-fi-thriller, and this looks like it could be such a thing.

Number 8: Pacific Rim: Uprising.

I really like “Pacific Rim”. I wouldn’t exactly call it Guillermo Del Toro’s greatest movie, but it has some interesting concepts and some damn entertaining action scenes. And while this doesn’t look like it will be as good as the first, it still looks like it could be a dumb and fun popcorn movie. And instead of Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi we seem to get John Boyega (Woo!) and Scott Eastwood (okay?). *gulp*. Please be good.

Number 9: X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

No trailer. Unproven director. Sequel to generally disliked movie. So how could I be excited for this? Honestly, I love “X-Men”. I love this franchise and I’m always excited to see new movies for this series. The X-Movies have given me hours upon hours of entertainment and I am always happy to get more.

Number 10: The New Mutants.

A horror movie set in the “X-Men” universe? Sure, why the fuck not. Could be fun. Looks like fun. Has a good cast. Yeah, I’m on board. Still confused about why horror with these mutants, and why there’s Pink Floyd in the trailer. Oh well, I’m intrigued.

Number 11: Soldado.

“Sicario” is one of my favorite movies of the last few years, so when they announced a sequel I got worried. Would they butcher it? How could they continue such a tight story? Sure, Brolin and Benicio are back, and so is the original writer… but Denis Villeneuve and Roger Deakins aren’t, so that had me worried. Then the trailer came out and I thought it looked okay. After some thinking, I am now even more excited about it. Do I think it’ll be better than the first? Hell no. But I think it could be a good movie.

Number 12: The Predator.

A sequel to “Predator”, written and directed by Shane Black? Hell yeah. Not only is Shane Black a damn fine writer/director, but his involvement with the original movie (he played the character Hawkins) gives him a bit more insight into this shit. And I’m just excited to see a new movie from Shane Black. He’s great.

Number 13: Ant-Man and The Wasp.

I like “Ant-Man”, it’s a really fun movie. I’m excited for the sequel. Has a good director, great cast, it’s part of the MCU… yeah, I’m excited. Moving on.

Number 14: Aquaman.

The DCEU has been… problematic to say the least. But “Wonder Woman” has proven that there can be good movies in it. And with an awesome cast and a solid director I am pretty excited for this movie. I feel like it could be fun. Did I say fun? Oh no, the DC fanboys will come after me now.

Number 15: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Sony. Sony, Sony, Sony, you unreliable idiots. Needing help from Marvel to make a good “Spider-Man” movies. What’s this? An animated “Spider-Verse” movie? Okay, I’m intrigued. It has a cool style to it (though body/facial animation looks a bit jittery). I am intrigued to see them make this. I love me a bit of superhero animation.

And that’s it for my list. There will be interesting movies that I will find out about later this year, but these are some of the ones I’m a bit more interested in right now… a lot of superhero and sci-fi stuff. I am one predictable person. But I want to hear from you, what are some of your most anticipated titles this year? Leave any and all thoughts in the comments.
Have a good one.

“Deadpool 2” teaser!

Hello three, ladies and gents of the internet. Time for some trailer talk. So let’s just jump into it.

So we have our first teaser for “Deadpool 2”, the sequel to last year’s surprise hit. Now, we did technically get a teaser for this earlier this year, around the time that “Logan” was released, but that was more a proof of concept rather than an official look at the movie. And now we have our first actual teaser for the movie. But for those that didn’t exist last year, here’s a quick recap of what “Deadpool” was all about. The movie was about a super powered mercenary named Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) who was trying to find the guy who made him super powered and also ugly as hell. The movie was self-aware, action-packed, funny, exciting, violent as fuck, and it’s one of my faves of last year. All caught up? Great. So what’s this about then? Fuck if I know, all that happens in this trailer is that Deadpool (again played by Ryan Reynolds) does some silly stuff, and then we get quick glimpses of the carnage that will ensue in the movie. It’s a quick teaser, and nothing else. But I laughed at the silly stuff, and the action looked badass. The movie is also directed by David Leitch who co-directed “John Wick”, so we know that it’s in good hands. So yeah, I’m really excited for the movie! “Deadpool 2” is set to be released in June of next year.

What are your thoughts? Are you excited for “Deadpool 2”? And what did you think of the first? Leave any and all thoughts in the comments!
Have a good one and enjoy the teaser!

“Annihilation” trailer!

Hello there, ladies and gents! Time for another trailer talk! So here we go!

We have our first trailer for “Annihilation”, an upcoming sci-fi movie from writer/director Alex Garland. And let’s get it out of the way right now, I’m a fan of Garland’s work. He wrote “Sunshin”, which I love. He wrote “Dredd”, which I love. And he both wrote and directed “Ex Machina”, which I loved. So I’ve been excited to see what he’d cook up next. And now we have our first look at it. So what’s it about then? Well, it’s about a group of scientists (Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Jennifer Jason Leigh) who go on an expedition into a strange place, and they seem to encounter some sci-fi weirdness. So what do I think? It looks good. Weird, but good. Like I said, I’m a fan of Garland’s previous works, so I’m just immediately excited. Especially since this looks like  very few things that have come before it. And there are some good actors involved. Aside from the three mention above, we also hav Oscar Isaac, Benedict Wong, and Gina Rodriguez. So yeah, I’m excited. “Annihilation” is set to be released in February of 2018.

What are your thoughts? Are you excited for “Annihilation”? And what’s your favorite movie written by Alex Garland? Leave any and all thoughts in the comments.
Have a good one and enjoy the trailer.

Announcing The Month of Spooks 2017!!!

Ladies, gentlemen, and others… I am very proud to announce, for the third year in a row… THE MONTH OF SPOOKS!

For those of you who are new/not aware, The Month of Spooks is my special little “series” that I do every October since 2015. And since October will be here pretty soon, I thought it was time to finally make an official announcement about it… and here it is. So what exactly will happen during the Month of Spooks? Well, I don’t have any set-in-stone plans, but I have some vague ideas, mainly about a couple of horror movies that I want to review. Other than that, I have no specific plans for it (Lucky for me that there’s time left for me to think about it). Last year I was lucky to have a couple of people join in on it, with them making posts on their blogs in the name of the Spooks. And I’m hoping to get some people along for the ride this year as well. Now, I don’t have anywhere that people can sign up for it as of writing this, but I might be able to fix something for that. In the meantime, if you are interested in signing up for The Month of Spooks, you could always send a DM my way on twitter (@TheMarckoguy), if you have a twitter account. If you don’t… then maybe have some patience.

Well, that’s really all I had to say. Not a lot of things I could say in this announcement. So… prepare your butts for The Month of Spooks!
Have a good one.

“Wheelman” teaser trailer!

Hello there, my friends! Time for some trailer talk! So here we go!

We have now gotten our first look at Netflix original movie “Wheelman”. So what’s this all about then? Well, Frank Grillo stars as a badass getaway driver who gets pulled into a really bad situation. And that’s really all we know, and that’s all we need. Getaway driver, bad situation, action, Frank Grillo. Now, I’ve actually had this movie in my sights for a while mainly due to a couple of things. For one, it stars the aforementioned Frank Grillo, one of the most badass actors working today. And it was produced by both Grillo and Joe Carnahan, the man who made the excellent “The Grey” and the really fun “Stretch” (which I recently reviewed *Nudge nudge wink wink*). So since I follow their social media feeds I’ve known about this project for a while, and now we finally have our first look at it. And while there isn’t a lot of footage to go on, I would still say that I’m excited. I’m always up for a good action movie, and a bit of Frank Grillo. Sure, the director, Jeremy Rush, hasn’t directed a movie prior to this, but I am still quite interested in this. “Wheelman” is set to be released on October 20th, only on Netflix.

What are your thoughts on this? Are you excited for “Wheelman”? And what’s your favorite movie about/heavily featuring a getaway driver? Leave any and all thoughts in the comments.

“The Punisher” Teaser Trailer!

Hello there, ladies and gentlemen of the internet! A trailer has dropped and I want to talk about it… so let’s talk about it.

So we finally have our first look at the upcoming Marvel/Netflix series “The Punisher”. For those who don’t know, “The Punisher” is based on a Marvel Comics character created by Gerry Conway, and making his first appearance in “The Amazing Spider-Man” #129 in 1974. Then he’s gotten his own comics and various movies (and even a video game). Then he made his MCU debut last year in season 2 of Netflix’s “Daredevil”, where he was played by Jon Bernthal. And shortly after that it was announced that he would be getting his own Netflix series. Skip forward to earlier today when we got our first teaser trailer for his show. All caught up? Great. Now, while we don’t get too many details from this teaser, we can tell that it will be an intense show featuring a lot of military-based action/drama. Also, Frank/Punisher (Jon Bernthal) is smashing his logo (a skull) into some concrete. And yeah, I’m excited. Sure, I was excited for this series as soon as it was announced, but I’m even more excited now that we have a little bit of actual footage. So I am pretty hyped. “The Punisher” has no official release date, but will most likely premiere around November of this year.

What are your thoughts? Are you excited for “The Punisher”? And what’s your favorite out of all the MCU/Netflix shows so far (not counting “Defenders” which just came out)? Leave any and all thoughts in the comments.

“Black Panther” trailer!

Hello there guys, hope you’re doing well. Well, time to talk about a new trailer!

So we have gotten our first trailer for “Black Panther”, the next next next movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And that would make it the MCU’s 18th movie, Jesus fucking Christ, that’s a lot of movies. Anyhow, so what’s this about then? Well, it’s about T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman), the new ruler of Wakanda, a fictional African country, defending his homeland as the titular Dark Feline. And that’s about all I can say. You want a full, possibly spoiler-filled disection of the trailer, go somewhere else. I just give you the news of this trailer’s existence. But you already knew about it because every person and their cat has written/vlogged about it. Still, what do I think? I’m excited. This looks badass, and Black Panther’s appearance in “Captain America: Civil War” just made me want more of the character, because Chadwick Boseman was awesome. And the cast here too is just amazing. It’s also nice to see Andy Serkis actually showing his face for once and not doing performance capture. So yeah, I’m pretty fucking excited for this movie. “Black Panther” is set to be released in February of 2018.

What are your thoughts? Are you excited for “Black Panther”? And what did you think of his appearance in “Civil War”? Leave any and all answers in the comments!

“Darsiders 3” Official Reveal Trailer!

So many trailers, so little time! Here we go!

So first we talked about a movie trailer, then a TV trailer, and now a video game trailer… it’s a trifecta of entertainment. So as you probably read in the title, we have gotten a reveal trailer for “Darksiders 3”. Backstory: In “Darksiders”, the horseman known as War (Liam O’Brien) went on a chaotic adventure and shit got fucked. In “Darksiders 2”, his brother, Death (Michael Wincott), goes on his own adventure to try to redeem War. All caught up? Good. So now we come to “Darksiders 3”, a game that I’ve wanted for quite a while. So what’s the deal here? Well it apparently follows Fury (Actress not yet known), the sister of the other horsemen of the apocalypse, as she goes on a quest to stop the seven deadly sins who have escaped. That’s all we know, and that’s all we need. A badass woman with a whip destroying demons in the “Darksiders” universe… that’s all we get and that’s all we need.  Not much is revealed here, and that’s fine. I’m just excited that a new “Darksiders” is being made. While having no official release date, “Darksiders 3” is most likely being released in 2018.

What are your thoughts? Are you excited about “Darksiders 3”? And have played the other games, if so, what do you think? Leave any and all answers in the comments!

We finally have a trailer for “The Dark Tower”

The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed.

So we finally have a trailer for “The Dark Tower”, the big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s epic series of novels. So what’s it all about then? Well, it’s about Roland (Idris Elba), the last gunslinger, who has to find the titular tower and also stop the man in black (Matthew McConaughey). And Roland has to do this with the help of a boy named Jake (Tom Taylor). That’s the basic plot of the first novel titled “The Gunsliner”, which seems to be the book they’re using as main inspiration for this movie. So what do I think of this trailer? Yeah, I’m not a big fan. I fucking love the books and would love to see a great adaptation of them… but this doesn’t look like it would be it. I know that certain liberties have to be taken when adapting a book to a screen… but this doesn’t look right. This looks like typical Hollywood stuff. I know that the weirdness of the novels would be hard to market to the general public that hasn’t read them, but this just looks stereotypically Hollywood and I’m not okay with that… at least not for “The Dark Tower”. I was already skeptical of the movie, and this trailer doesn’t help it in the slightest. “The Dark Tower” is set to be released in August of this year.

What are your thoughts on this? Are you excited about “The Dark Tower”? And if you’ve read the books, what do you think about them? Leave any and all thoughts in the comments!
Have a good one and enjoy the trailer.

The Dark Tower trailer was released on the internet, and Markus complained about it.

“Kingsman: The Golden Circle” trailer!

Another interesting trailer has been released. Let’s talk about it!

So we have finally gotten a trailer for “Kingsman: The Golden Circle”, the sequel to the surprisingly awesome “Kingsman: The Secret Service” from 2015. To quickly recap that movie: Eggsy (Taron Egerton) is a troubled young man that gets recruited by a man named Harry Hart (Colin Firth) to potentially join the Kingsmen, a super secret James Bond-ish organization of dapper spies. And there’s a villain played by Samuel L. Jackson and awesome action and humor ensues. It was a great movie. So what’s going on in this one then? Well it seems like the base of the Kingsmen gets blown to kingdom come. So Eggsy, Merlin (Mark Strong), and Roxy (Sophie Cookson) will have to team up with the Statesmen, the American version of the Kingsmen, to stop this movie’s villain (Julianne Moore). And we see some plot and some really cool action, to Frank Sinatra’s “My Way”. Oh and, spoiler for the first “Kingsman” coming up.
At the end of the trailer we find out that Harry Hart is alive despite being presumed dead at the end of the first movie. So what do I think? Well, this looks like a lot of fun. Not sure if this will be able to live up to the first movie, but I am at least sure that it will be one hell of a good time. “Kingsman: The Golden Circle” is set to be released in late September of this year.

What are your thoughts? Are you excited about “Kingsman: The Golden Circle”? And what are your thoughts on the first movie? Leave any and all thoughts in the comments!
Have a good one and enjoy the trailer!
