“Assassin’s Creed Origins” E3 Trailer!

Hello there, guys. More E3 stuff coming your way, so let’s just get into it.

So thanks to E3 we have our first look at “Assassin’s Creed Origins”, the… 42nd(?) installment in the series. Jokes aside, I’m a huge “Assassin’s Creed” fan, so I’m happy to get more of these games. Long story short: Two factions (Assassins and Templars) have been fighting forever because there’s something called pieces of Eden, magic items which could help one rule the world. Templars want to be assholes and do that, and Assassins don’t want the world to be ruled. Then in the future they’re still going at it. Though this time they also have a machien called The Animus which can make a person relive his or her ancestor’s memories because convoluted DNA bullshit. Alright, enough of that. It seems like the series is bringing it back qutie a bit, at least storywise. This time it’s set in ancient Egypt, and it seems like that’s where the Assassins truly began. So now we follow some ancient Assassin dude as he fights to… save the world or something. The gameplay looks like an updated version of the fighting style we’ve gotten used to over the years and I’m okay with that. It also seems like they’re adding more of an RPG element to it. And also in the cinematic part of this trailer there is a giant fucking snake for some reason… because ancient Egypt apparently had that (probably not). Snakes aside, I am excited for this. Like I said, I’m a huge “Assassin’s Creed” fan and this game overall looks like it could be fun. “Assassin’s Creed Origins” is set to be released on October 27th 2017. Basically October is the month of my wallet absolutely hating me.

What are your thoughts? Are you excited for “Assassin’s Creed Origins”? And what’s your favorite game in the series (if you’ve played them)? Leave any and all thoughts in the comments!

“Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus” E3 Trailer!

Hello there, ladies and gents. Like I said in my previous post *nudge nudge, wink wink*, I would cover a whole bunch of trailer coming out of E3. So here we go with number 2.

So we have our first trailer for “Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus”, the sequel to “Wolfenstein: The New Order”, a game where you can turn super-nazis into red paste… yes, it’s as amazing as it sounds. Bit of backstory. After having devloped super-technology, the nazis more or less won World War 2. But in a last stand effort in 1946, the allied forces sent one more batch of soldiers to try to stop the evil nazi science man (Dwight Schultz). But the allied forces kind of fucked up which led to the squad leader, William J. Blazkowicz (Brian Bloom) falling into a coma for the next 14 years. Then in 1960 he wakes up and teams up with his nurse (Alicja Bachleda) to find the resistance and stop the evil super-nazis. Also, Jimi Hendrix is there for some reason. It was a great game. Now, I’m gonna spoil the ending of the game. That’s not really a choice of mine, I need to do it to discuss the story presented for this game. *Sigh*. At the end of “The New Order” you fight your way through the super-nazi castle (yes, you read that right) to find Deathshead (that’s the evil nazi science man) and kill him. Which you finally do in a challenging but badass boss battle. Then the entire place explodes, presumably killing B.J. But now with “The New Colossus”, it seems like he fell into a coma… AGAIN… and woke up from it… AGAIN. Oh well, no use crying over repeating themes. But now the nazis have truly taken over, making the world look like a slightly less depressing version of “Man in the High Castle” (a show I reviewied once, *nudge nudge, wink wink*). So now B.J. has to work with a new and improved resistance to hopefully stop the super-nazis once and for all. All of it presented in one of the best game trailer I have seen. It shows some fun ads at the start, gives us a look at the cutscenes and dialogue, and even gives us a bit of gameplay towards the end… and god damn, this looks fucking incredible! “Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus” is set to be released on October 27th of 2017.

What are your thoughts? Are you excited for “The New Colossus”? And what did you think of “The New Order” (if you played it). Leave any and all thoughts in the comments.

“The Evil Within 2” Announcement Trailer!

Hello guys, hope you’re having a good day. Well, it’s that time of year again. The Electronic Entertainment Expo (more commonly known as E3) is currently going on and we’ve gotten some interesting trailers/reveals from it. So I’m gonna talk about them for the next couple of posts. So here we go.

The first trailer we’re talking about today is the announcement/reveal trailer for “The Evil Within 2”, the sequel to the 2014 horror game from game director Shinji Mikami. So what’s going on here? Well, first the story for the first game to give a little bit of context. Sebastian Castellanos (Anson Mount) is a police detective that gets sent with his colleagues Julie (Jennifer Carpenter) and Joseph (Yuri Lowenthal) to investigate a horrible massacre at an asylum. And when they get there they get dragged into a mindbending and quite fucked up adventure trying to stop an evil madman named Ruvik (Jackie Earle Haley). Now, onto the sequel. Sebastian (voice actor not confirmed) seems to get a report from Kidman (voice actor not confirmed) that Seb’s daughter (who we found out died), might actually be alive. So now he has to go on anotehr fucked up mission through the horrors of the mind. But the trailer not only reveals the existence of the game and reveals a little bit of plot, but there’s also a little bit of gameplay towards the end… and it looks like more of the first, which I’m okay with, because I really enjoyed the first game. And wait a minute, did they tease the return of the spider-lady from the first game? Oh shit. Now, will this game be able to scare me as much as the ninth chapter of the first game? Who the fuck knows. All I know is that this looks kind of creepy and mindbendy and yeah, I’m excited. “The Evil Within 2” is set to be released on Friday the 13th of October 2017… wait that’s this year, right in time for the “Month of Spooks”!

What are your thoughts? Are you excited for “The Evil Within 2”? And what did you think of the first game (if you played it)? Leave any and all thoughts in the comments.
Have a good one and enjoy the madness, I mean trailer!

“Far Cry 5” Announcement Trailer!!!

Hello there, my friends. Another trailer has been released and I’m gonna talk about it!

So we have gotten our first trailer for “Far Cry 5”, the seventh installment in Ubisoft’s first person shooter series. And yes, you read that right, the game with a 5 in the title is the seventh one. Because between “Far Cry 4” and this one, we had “Far Cry Primal” which was set 10000 B.C. And after “Far Cry 3” we got a spin-off game called “Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon”, which lampooned 80s sci-fi/action movies, going so far as to star Michael Biehn. Now, weird release order aside, let’s talk about the game at hand, “Far Cry 5”. This game will be set in the fictional Hope County, Montana. Which of course means that it’s the first “Far Cry” to be set in the United States. And it seems like the villains of the game will be a group of crazy cultists who forces any person around into their religion. Now, there was a teaser image that was released the other day which sparked some controversy (found at the top of this post). I think the main thing about that controversy is that crazy antagonist(s) of this game seems to be white, “christian”, Americans. To those who say that this is a bad move by Ubisoft, go fuck yourselves, it’s just a game that is about a specific group of people, and not about EVERY white American christian out there. Sorry about that rant, people who have common sense, but I had to get it out there. Now, while this trailer is made to look as cinematic as possible, I can still imagine that the game can and will get as crazy as the trailer makes it out to be. I mean, I have played the shit out of both “Far Cry 3” and “Far Cry 4”, and times could get crazy in both of those. So yeah, this will probably get crazy, especially with gun-crazy Americans who also happen to be religious fanatics thrown into the mix. So I’m quite excited. “Far Cry 5” is set to be released in February of next year.

What are your thoughts? Are you excited for “Far Cry 5”? And have you played any of the previous games? Leave any and all thoughts in the comments!
Have a good one and enjoy the trailer!

“Darsiders 3” Official Reveal Trailer!

So many trailers, so little time! Here we go!

So first we talked about a movie trailer, then a TV trailer, and now a video game trailer… it’s a trifecta of entertainment. So as you probably read in the title, we have gotten a reveal trailer for “Darksiders 3”. Backstory: In “Darksiders”, the horseman known as War (Liam O’Brien) went on a chaotic adventure and shit got fucked. In “Darksiders 2”, his brother, Death (Michael Wincott), goes on his own adventure to try to redeem War. All caught up? Good. So now we come to “Darksiders 3”, a game that I’ve wanted for quite a while. So what’s the deal here? Well it apparently follows Fury (Actress not yet known), the sister of the other horsemen of the apocalypse, as she goes on a quest to stop the seven deadly sins who have escaped. That’s all we know, and that’s all we need. A badass woman with a whip destroying demons in the “Darksiders” universe… that’s all we get and that’s all we need.  Not much is revealed here, and that’s fine. I’m just excited that a new “Darksiders” is being made. While having no official release date, “Darksiders 3” is most likely being released in 2018.

What are your thoughts? Are you excited about “Darksiders 3”? And have played the other games, if so, what do you think? Leave any and all answers in the comments!
Have a good one and enjoy the trailer.

“The Last of Us Part 2” has officially been announced!

the-last-of-us-part-ii

Holy. Fucking. Shit. That came out of nowhere… sort of. Hello there, guys. I wasn’t really planning on making this post, because I didn’t know that this would even be announced. But here it is… so let’s talk about it!

So at PSX (A convention for Playstation) they officially announced “The Last of Us Part II”. For those who don’t know, this is a sequel (duh) to the very popular “The Last of Us”, an action-horror-drama video game from 2013. The game was about Joel (Troy Baker) transporting a young girl named Ellie (Ashley Johnson) across post-apocalyptic America because she’s special for a reason that I will not get into. I honestly didn’t play the game until earlier this year and I have to say that it is one of the best games I’ve ever experienced, with it’s incredible story/characters, terrific voice acting, great music, and absolutely astonishing graphics (especially the PS4 remaster). If you haven’t ever played “The Last of Us”, I suggest you pick it up because it is amazing. So I of course got excited when this announcement came about an hour(ish) ago. Sure, I have some slight reservations because of story and if they can make something that doesn’t disappoint since the first one is so incredible. But I digress. I guess this trailer gives you slight spoilers in the sense that it kind of reveals the fate of our heroes. So… go play the game, damn you. Anyone else that is still here, let’s talk about it.
So we open on a beautiful forest, then cut around a bit to some post-apocalyptic shit, and then to a shaky hand that starts playing a guitar. The hand of course belongs to Ellie who seems to be a bit older this time around. Elie plays a haunting tune that perfectly fits with this universe, then a man holding a revolver comes in and it turns out to be Joel! He asks what Ellie is doing (What are you doing, kiddo?). Then we get very brief dialog between them and it seems like there’s some revenge plot going on. And I’m motherfucking excited! We haven’t gotten an official release date yet, but it says that it’s in development (duh), so my guess is that we’ll see the game at some point in 2018.

So what are your thoughts? Are you excited for “The Last of Us Part II”? And are you a fan of the first game? Leave any and all thoughts in the comments.
Have a good one and enjoy the trailer!

New “Death Stranding” trailer

Hello guys, it’s me again (duh). As you may know, this blog isn’t exclusively a movie blog, but I do talk about otehr thigns as well, such as TV and video games. Well, now it’s time to talk about the latter of those two once again.

So the 2016 game awards has given us a new trailer for “Death Stranding”, the mysterious new game by legendary video game director Hideo Kojima.  During E3 earlier this year we got the first trailer for the game, and that shit was some of the weirdest and most cryptic stuff ever. And now that we have a new trailer that might shed some more light on it all… not really. We open up beind a man who seems to be running through a war zone of some kind. We then soon find out that this man is… Geuillermo Del Toro? Okay, what the fuck? Anyway, moving on. Del Toro seems to be carrying some weird thing which we soon find out is a baby in a weird pod… okay? He then enters a tunnel where he faces some soldiers. Then one of the soldiers takes off his helmet and it turns out to be… Mads Mikkelsen? And then logo. All of this while we get to see some surreal shit. Yeah, I don’t know what the fuck to say. This is weird, but also really intriguing. Kojima is known for some odd stories, most of them turning out pretty great. So I am of course excited to see what all this is. And I’m also really excited because the game will star Norman Reedus and Mads Mikkelsen. Yeah, this shit is bananas and I am interested to see what else can come out of this. While no official date has been set, the game will most likely be released at some point in 2018.

What are your thoughts on this? Are you excited for “Death Stranding”? Leave any and all thoughts in the comments.
Have a good one and enjoy(?) the trailer.

Movie Review: Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV (2016)

kingsglaive-final-fantasy-xv-qu-1366x768

It’s clear that Hollywood doesn’t know what the fuck they’re doing when they try to make movies based on video games. So that’s why I’ll stick to Japan who have given us some really good ones.

Ladies and gentlemen… “Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV”.

Lucis is a land which holds a very powerful magic crystal that the kingdom of Niflheim wants. So the king of Lucis, king Regis (Sean Bean) orders his army to protect the land and the crystal at all costs. So it’s up to Nyx Ulric (Aaron Paul) and the rest of the Kingsglaive (roll credits) to protect the land. I know this all sounds like a bit of nonsense… but that’s kind of the point. Ever since the first “Final Fantasy” game was released, it’s been all about nonsense fantasy stuff. And “Kingsglaive” is no different in that regard. But the plot here is still interesting and fun to follow, especially if you’re a fan of the franchise. There is a lot of stuff going on, and I really enjoyed it all.

The characters in this movie are not the most interesting of individuals. They are not bad at all as far as characters go, but they are not too memorable. As for the performances… they’re pretty good. Of course there’s a lot to it since there’s voice acting, motion capture, and 3D-modeling on all characters… so I’m really only going to focus on the voice acting. Aaron Paul plays main character Nyx Ulric and he did a really good job. At first he can seem a bit stoic and flat, but he really gets to act out a bit more as the movie goes on. Not to Jesse Pinkman levels, but he still does a really good job. Lena Headey plays princess Lunafreya and she did a pretty good job, not fantastic, but she was good. Sean Bean as king Regis… old and wise and he’s really good. The rest of the cast (none as well known as the main three), they all do a really good job. Meh characters, really good acting.

The score was composed by John Graham & Yoko Shimomura and it is pretty epic. It’s big, bombastic, and badass. Perfectly fitting the “Final Fantasy” name while overall being pretty damn good. Seriously, it’s awesome.

Since this happens to be an animated feature we should talk about the animation… holy motherfucking shit, it is absolutely stunning. Look at the environments, looks at the characters’ faces, look at their hair! It all looks absolutely amazing. And the action scenes, while a bit jumpy at times are pretty damn badass. They’re huge and really fun to watch. The final act is a really bombastic and ridiculous action set piece that I had a blast watching.

This movie has gotten some mixed reception. On Rotten Tomatoes it has a 13% positive rating (ouch). On Metacritic it has a score of 35/100. And on imdb.com it has a score of 7,0/10.

“Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV” will not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I honestly had a blast with it. It had a fan plot, good performances, great music, fantastic animation, and really fun action scenes. However I will have to pull it down a little because of the cahracters not being very compelling and also because of some very quick cutting in a few action scenes. Time for my final score. *Clears throat*. My final score for “Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV” is a 9,21/10. So I’d say that it’s worth buying.
Worth buying

My review of “Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV” is now completed.

That was fun… hopefully I’ll also have a blast whenever I get to play the game.

Movie Review: Ratchet & Clank (2016)

ratchet-clank-01_0

Video game movies… they don’t really have the best of track records. So I am always curious but also cautious when a new one is announced. Especially when it’s based on a franchise that I am a fan of… like this one.

Ladies and gents… “Ratchet & Clank”.

Ratchet (James Arnold Taylor) is a Lombax with huge aspirations. Then one day when he meets a little robot he calls Clank (David Kaye) he might be able to fulfill them as they have to team up to join the galactic rangers and stop the evil chairman Drek (Paul Giamatti). The formula is so standard that it should be impossible to fuck up… but they kind of did it. The plot in itself isn’t bad, it’s relatively harmless. Problem is that the pacing of it is pretty bad. I kept looking at my watch throughout the entirety. So it was basically boring… something that “Ratchet & Clank” shouldn’t be.

The characters in this movie aren’t bad. The titular heroes are still really good and pretty entertaining. And I am so glad that the filmmakers decided to get James Arnold Taylor and David Kaye to come back and voice them instead of some random celebrities. Seriously, hearing them as these characters once again makes me happy. I also loved hearing Jim Ward back as Captain Qwark, and I was actually happy to also hear Armin Shimerman back as Dr. Nefarious even though he wasn’t in the OG game. As for any other actors in the movie… they did fine. Paul Giamatti was really good as Chairman Drek, though I did miss the magnificent voice of Kevin Michael Richardson. It was also interesting hearing people like Rosario Dawson, John Goodman, and Sylvester Stallone in the supporting cast. Though their characters were kind of bland and not very interesting.

The score for the movie was composed by Evan Wise and Jingle Punks(?) and it was really bland and not exactly memorable. The “Ratchet & Clank” games have always had great and memorable pieces of music, so the fact that this score was so generic is really disappointing.

Since this is an animated feature, let’s talk about the animation… yeah, it’s pretty good. It looks like a “Ratchet & Clank” game, minus the fun gameplay. Sure, there are certain thigns that don’t look too great, but for the most part the animation looks good. And the action scenes are pretty well done. Seeing some very “Ratchet & Clank”-esque weapons be used in the movie was really fun, though I feel like there wasn’t enough of that stuff. Speaking of “Ratchet & Clank”-esque things, the games have always had a good dose of comedy thrown in there… most of it prety hilarious. However, I didn’t think this movie was hilarious. There were parts where I chuckled at certain things, but there was never any real laughter. Some of the things I chuckled at included a few movie references that I thought were kind of fun. But most of the jokes in the movie fell flatter than a pancake that’s been run over by a steamroller.

This movie has not been well received. On Rotten Tomatoes it has a 16% positive rating. On Metacritic it has a score of 29/100. And on imdb.com it has a score of 5,7/10.

“Ratchet & Clank” was one of those video game movies that actually had some potential, but it somehow kind of failed. First the positives: The story itself was okay, the main characters were fun, the voice acting was really good, the animation was good, and there were some decently fun jokes/references. As for negatives: The pacing was bad, a good amount of the characters were bland, the music wasn’t very good, and a lot of the jokes were pretty bad. Time for my final score. *sniffles*. My final score for “Ratchet & Clank” is a 4,98/10. So I’d suggest you skip it. *sniffles*.

My review of “Ratchet & Clank” is now completed.

Shit… well, the video game tie-in is at least supposed to be really good.

Some Scary Characters

scary-characters

With it being Halloween, AKA the end of the Month of Spooks, I felt that I had to something special for the blog. Sure, I could’ve done a review of John Carpenter’s “Halloween”, but that would have been a bit of a cliché move on my part. So I started thinking… how about a list? I mean, I haven’t done a list in a while, so now is a good a time as any. Some of you might be asking “BUT MARKUUUUUS… Why not make it a list about your favorite horror movies?”. Honestly… I feel like I haven’t seen enough horror movies to really be able to make a list like that any feel good about it. So instead I opted to do something that I’ve been thinking a little bit about for a while… how about a list of characters/creatures from fiction that I find scary? And then I decided to actually do it. So let’s do it… after the rules.

Rule #1: This is my list, so no bitching allowed. These are things I find scary in some way. If you don’t find any of these scary… then that’s your thing. These are just my opinions in here, not what I think everyone should think. So no bitching… got it!?

Rule #2: This list is not really ranked, so don’t take it as me thinking one of the things on this list is scarier than the other… they all creep me out in some way, so I will not really rank ’em. I also don’t rank them because I might make another list like this in the future with even more shit that scares me.

Rule #3: I will only include one thing from each intellectual property. So if a piece of fiction mentioned in this thing has more than one scary creature, I will only mention one of them.

So that’s about it for the rules. And while bitching isn’t allowed here, I do encourage discussion. Maybe share some characters you think are scary in the comments. With that said, let’s get into it.
Ladies and gentlemen… Some Scary Characters.

Freddy Krueger – Nightmare on Elm Street
714753c1cadceb43134a30ef0c4ac65b

Let’s get one of the most popular ones out of the way first. Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) was a child killer who got burned alive by a mob of angry parents, and now he kills people in their dreams. Firstly, child killer… that shit is just awful and terrifying. Secondly, he kills you when you’re sleeping, he’ll make sure you’ll never wake. Sadistic christmas songs aside, the fact that he kills you in your dreams, where anything can happen, that is a very creative and scary thing. And Freddy is a very scary character… at least in the original movie, in the sequels he became more of a joke. But a lot of why he was so great was because of Robert Englund’s pitch-perfect performance, he was a perfect choice for Freddy. And to give credit where credit is due, even though the remake was really bad, I thought the casting of Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy was a really good one. What am I trying to say with all this? Freddy is an awesome and scary villain.

Frank – Donnie Darko
frank-the-rabbit-unplated-mask-e1411415687564

Next up is the creepy fucking giant man-bun from the 2001 mindfucker “Donnie Darko”. Basic plot is that Donnie (Jake Gyllenhaal) is a really weird teenager and he starts seeing a giant bunny named Frank that makes Donnie do some shady shit. Let’s put it like this, the movie is awesome and you should see it if you haven’t. And now we get to Frank, a fucking weird giant bunny (or rabbit) that has a scary design and a creepy voice. Yeah that’s about it… that’s why I think he’s scary.

Ruvik – The Evil Within
tumblr_static_efpqofu7xh4w8084skcs4gg88_640_v2

Hey look, it’s Jackie Earle Haley again! From critically acclaimed video game director Shinji Mikami comes “The Evil Within”, a survival horror game where you as Detective Sebastian Castellanos (Anson Mount) investigates a gruesome mass murder and then gets dragged into some mind-bending bullshit. As you go through the game you encounter various creepy and disgusting creatues. But none of them had as much of an effect as Ruvik. And my comment earlier about it being Jackie Earle Haley was serious, he really voiced the character. So why did I pick Ruvik to put on this list? Well, he is basically the main reason as to why the plot happens. And honestly, that’s not exactly why I chose him for this list. Mild spoilers coming for the game. In chapter 9 (titled “The Cruelest Intentions”) you enter a creepy mansion. In front of you there is a big and weird door that you need to get open. If you look closely you will see that there are cables going from the door to various doors in the foyer. So of course you follow these cables into the rooms. Now the scary stuff comes. As you enter any of these rooms (timing varies), Ruvik will appear. First instinct, shoot the fucker… doesn’t work. He walks towards you, and if he cathes you he will kill you. All you can do is run away from him (always keep your eyes on him), until he disappears after about 30 seconds. And that’s the scary thing, an unstoppable thing that just walks after you. I find that scary. Seriously, whenever I get to that part of the game I lock up because I don’t want Ruvik to appear. But sometimes you have to bite the bullet to progress. And he will appear 3 times throughout… which is terrifying. So yeah… that’s why Ruvik is on the list. And on a quick sidenote: If you want a pretty cool game to play, I do recommend “The Evil Within”.

The Thing – The Thing
125088f8d936ca0626911539f45471f6594294ae

The titular thing from John Carpenter’s sci-fi/horror masterpiece is fucking terrifying. It’s also one of the most clever plot devices ever. The creature can take the shape of anyone, so there’s constant mistrust and tension between the characters, which makes for a very suspenseful and awesome movie. But when the creature decides to finally show itself as a monstrous being, it is disgusting and creepy and Rob Bottin’s effects are some of the best ever put to film. I don’t think I need to say much here since it’s such a well known and beloved film.

John Doe – Se7en
d435396edbc6e14a06064ad7bd42b63e

Okay, I’m not even gonna show a picture of this one in case someone reading this haven’t seen “Se7en” yet… which you should, damn it. David Fincher’s “Se7en” is honestly one of my personal favorites… definitely one of my top ten. For those that don’t know, detectives Mills (Brad Pitt) and Somerset (Morgan Freeman) investigates a series of gruesome murders that all seem to be related to the seven deadly sins in some way. And the reasons as to why I picked John Doe for this list is because he is a highly skilled killer who works in secret, and isn’t even seen until the last third of the movie. The stuff he does to his victims… horrifying. And when you do see him later on, he’s still scary, with a calm and menacing demeanor and a perfectly calculated plan. Really, a killer who’s got every step of his plan worked out is just scary to me, especially when their plans involve some truly horrifying and awful stuff.

Dementors – Harry Potter
fc56fff43a1727932f142616fbc404dd-660x374

The Dementors are something I talked about fairly recently in my review of “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” (#ShamelessPlug). They are dark creatures with a scary design and with no real sympathy for anyone or anything. Seeing one in the movie? Scary. Being chased by one in the video game while trying to solve a puzzle… fucking terrifying. Really, these things are just horrible. I’m just gonna leave you with a quote from the “Prisoner of Azkaban” novel. “Dementors are among the foulest creatures that walk this earth. They infest the darkest, filthiest places, they glory in decay and despair, they drain peace, hope, and happiness out of the air around them. Even Muggles feel their presence, though they can’t see them. Get too near a Dementor and every good feeling, every happy memory will be sucked out of you. If it can, the Dementor will feed on you long enough to reduce you to something like itself — soul-less and evil. You’ll be left with nothing but the worst experiences of your life.”

Regenerator – Resident Evil 4
regenerator-resident-evil-4-grab

I know, the graphics on that thing don’t look too scary from where you’re sitting right now… but trust me, these fuckers are the stuff of nightmares! Agent Leon Kennedy (Paul Mercier) gets sent to Spain to find the President’s kidnapped daughter. While there he encounters some dark and disturbing stuff. At first, “Resident Evil 4” only feels like a very tense action-thriller, at least for me. I understand if someone might find most of it scary, but I didn’t exactly feel those spooks myself. Then we get a part pretty late in the game. You walk around some strange lab underground, and what do you find there? Infected people… and motherfucking Regenerators. These things… god. When you first encounter them, you think that it’s just as simple as shooting them… like pretty much all other enemies… but that is not the case here. Sure, you can blow off it’s limbs, but that shit will just grow back (hence the name). The only ways you can kill them is with either the help of a special scope you find later, or with a rocket launcher (very rare and kind of expensive). So all you can do really is run. Maybe blow off the legs to slow them down, but you can’t beat them. And the sounds they make, good fucking grief. It’s a weird breathing noise that scares me every time I hear it. And if a Regenerator gets hold of you, it will take away your health faster than you can say “Oklahoma”. Another thing about them is that there are two versions of them; the “normal” one (not normal in the eyes of me or god or anyone), and the “Iron Maiden” version. And no, that version doesn’t have excellent taste in music… that version has huge spikes coming out of it to stab the ever-living shit out of you. I hate these guys… they are terrifying. Sidenote: “Resident Evil 4” is an amazing game, go play it.

Xenomorph – Alien

This is the final one that I will put on the list. Can’t be here too long with the listing. But I think you all can agree that the Xenomorph from Ridley Scott’s “Alien” is really scary. A big, phallic, alien that sneaks on board a ship and then proceeds to stalk the crew and kill everyone… seriously, that is scary. The design of it (done by the brilliant H.R. Giger) is like something you’d see in your nightmares. And many people agree that it is horrifying, evidenced by it’s long-running popularity. From the OG movies, to the “AvP” bullshit, to the critically acclaimed game “Alien: Isolation”. This thing has gotten stuck in people’s minds, and I don’t think it will get out anytime soon.

So what do you think? Do you find any of these scary? And what are some scary characters/creatures that you get spooked by that I didn’t include? Seriously, I’d really love to hear from you guys!
Have a good one and Happy fuckin’ Halloween!
